“Nope,” Star said, quickly looking up at him. “I think you're the best.”

Anubis chuckled. “Sweet talker.” But either way, he wouldn't hold back his surprise from Star. Reaching into his jacket pocket, Anubis pulled out the paperwork, handing it to Star.

“What is this?” Star took the papers, unfolded, and read them. His head snapped up, looking at him in shock. “You bought the company for me? Holy shit.”

Chapter Twenty-Seven

STAR

“Why?” Star asked. He looked down at the paperwork and then back at Anubis.

“Call it my act of revenge. After hearing about what you endured in your last life, I know how much distress they caused you, and I cannot let them continue to be a thorn in your side.”

“But they aren’t the same people.”

“I don’t think that’s true. I have judged their souls and deemed that they will never change in any world or life they live. Do I care what happens to Thornton Miller and Sundi Noxx? No. Hell, I paid her father enough money to start a new company. However, he won’t.”

“How are you so sure?”

“Because I instructed him to live his life away from the entertainment business and not to think of starting anything new. Trust me, I was more gracious than I wanted to be, but since the man did nothing to you in either lifetime, I spared him.”

“And you think he will listen?”

“Other than being a god, I’m an excellent businessman. Not only that, I have Sobek and Thor as my backup. No one will go against my warnings.”

“Sobek, who is that?”

“My cousin, the god Sobki–”

“The god of fertility and chaos is your cousin! Holy shit, why haven’t I met him yet?” Star narrowed his eyes. “Why won’t you let me meet the rest of your family, Anubis?”

“It’s not time yet, baby boy. When you get over your fascination with the gods and see them as regular people, then I’ll introduce you to them. For now, I want to be selfish and keep you to myself.”

“Do I really act like a fanboy? I’ve met your father and I am perfectly fine around him.”

Anubis quirked a brow. “Admit it, you’re afraid of Father. I saw the way you hid behind him the last time he showed up.”

Fuck, Anubis was stating facts that Star didn’t want to admit to. “Fine, I’ll be patient, but don’t expect me to hold off for too long.”

“I promise, it won’t be long. They are eager to meet you as well.”

“Fine,” Star said and looked down at the paper he was still holding. He had used the talk of Anubis’s family to distract him from how conflicted he felt seeing his name as CEO, feeling emotions he couldn’t explain. No one had ever gone as far as buying a company for him just because he was dissatisfied with two people. Was this what finding true love felt like, where the person you were with would crush others in your path to make you happy? It gave Star a sense of entitlement he'd never experienced before. But there was one thing that bothered him,

“But I don’t know how to run a company.”

“I’ve taken care of that as well. It is currently a subsidiary of After Life Inc. I’ve assigned someone to run things until you’re ready. Or you could hire your own trusted people to run it like I did with After Life Inc. I'll support anything you desire.”

“After Life, the streaming service!”

“Hey, it’s more than that,” Anubis said, sounding offended.

Shit, don’t tell me he owns the company.

“After Life belongs to you and me. It has at least twenty companies underneath it, including VikVok and now your company.”

“Oh,” Star said, feeling very contrite.

“Don’t look so sad.” Anubis smiled. “I told you I owned a few things in town but didn’t go into details.”
