“Speaking of which, I need your help with something.”
“What…” Anubis began but paused when he heard a sweet, gentle, and sleepy voice calling for him.
Turning, he saw Star standing at the kitchen entrance, his red-orange curls sticking every which way and his eyes half open. The shirt he was wearing matched Anubis's pajama pants. The shirt swallowed him and hung loosely on his shoulders, showing off his enticing flesh.
“Baby, what are you doing out of bed?” Anubis walked over to him and fixed his shirt, lifting him up when he saw that Star wasn't wearing his house shoes. He sat with Star in his lap.
“I rolled over to hug you, and you were gone,” he said sleepily.
Anubis kissed him on the forehead. “I'm sorry. I had a guest,” he said, turning to look at his father, who was staring at Star.
“A guest?” Star said, then turned in his arms, gasped, and stared at Osiris.
Osiris smiled. “Hello, young man.”
Star jumped off Anubis’s lap and pointed at Osiris. “You!”
“Me.” Osiris’s eyes widened, and he pointed to himself. “Have we met?”
“I…uh…maybe I’m confusing you with someone else. I once shared what I thought was a taxi with a man that looked exactly like you,” Star explained.
Anubis watched Osiris's eyes widen in shock before he quickly masked it with a chuckle. “Well, this is surprising. I didn’t expect to see you again.”
Anubis furrowed his brows. “What the fuck is going on? Star, how do you know my father? The current lord and god of the underworld.”
* * *
Father!Underworld! This is the great god Osiris Ahket who Nephthys tricked and got pregnant with Anubis. Holy shit!
Star looked between Anubis and Osiris, two great gods, wondering how the hell he got so fucking lucky, yet he didn't feel so fortunate at the moment with the way Anubis was glaring at his father. “Father, how do you know my mate?” Anubis growled. If Star wasn’t mistaken, his words had a tinge of jealousy.
“What the fuck are you thinking? He and I shared a ride together.”
“A ride?” Anubis tilted his head, looking at his father, unbelieving.
“It's true.” Star stepped in between the two men, with a hand on Anubis's chest. “It happened in my past life. I hopped into a cab, or what I thought was a cab, but it was your father's car. We shared a weird conversation at the time...” Star's words trailed off when he recalled what they talked about on that morning. “It was you,” he said, glaring at Osiris. “You did this.”
Osiris sighed. “Truthfully, I feel like I'm being accused of something I had no part in. Care to tell me what I have supposedly done?”
“Was it you who Star's parents made a deal with?” Anubis asked.
“Ah...” he said, looking pretty guilty. “I make deals with people all the time. I'm not sure who you're both talking about.”
“Cut the bullshit,” Anubis snapped.
“I'm being honest. I don't know what you're referring to,” Osiris protested.
“Are you telling the truth?” Anubis asked. “Because if you're not, I'll get the mothers to discipline you.”
“All right, I'll come clean,” Osiris said, giving in to his son's anger. “I agreed to your parents' request; however, the change came from you.” He stared at Star for what seemed like a long time. “Do you remember the question I asked you in the car?”
Star was silent as he recalled the short drive and what they’d discussed. “You asked me if I was sure I was making the right decision. Obviously, I didn't.”
“I wouldn't say that. You did what you thought was correct at the time but got a second chance because of your parents' request.”
“Did you set me up with Star?” Anubis snapped.
“Son, I can understand your distrust. But after the last time I pushed you into a marriage you didn't want, I promised to stay out of your love life.” He stepped closer to Anubis and Star, putting a hand on their shoulders. “You two meeting and mating has nothing to do with me.”
