“They succeeded,” Uriel whispered.

“No, they didn’t,” Azazel corrected him. “They might have delayed our future, but like I told you, we’re going to be a family. Do you believe me?”

Uriel stared at him for a few seconds, then nodded. “I believe, just don’t let me lose faith in you again.”

Azazel kissed him on his forehead. “Baby, I won’t let that happen, never again.”

They held each other and were silent for a couple of minutes before Uriel spoke. “Since we’ve established that you weren’t the one who was sleeping with Gadriel, then who was pretending to be you? They looked and sounded like you, Az.”

“I don’t know, but don’t worry, I’ll find out who it was. Maybe they have the same ability as you.”

“You might be right,” Uriel said, leaning back and looking up at Azazel. “And as much as I want to find out who it is, I can’t let it be my focus right now.”

Azazel didn’t say anything, silently vowing to find out the truth and build a life with his family.

“I know you told me a little of what happened and you don’t want to go into everything now, but promise that you’ll tell me everything from the beginning to end about what happened to you.”

Uriel bit his bottom lip, then nodded his head. “I’ll tell you everything when the time is right. I’ve spent so many years hating you, and now I just need some time getting to know you before I bare my soul.”

“I can understand that,” Azazel assured him. “But answer one question for me.”

“Okay, but after this we move on from this topic. I don’t want to spend our entire lunch talking about the past.”

“Sounds fair.” Azazel smiled.

“So what’s your question?”

“Why did you believe me?”

Uriel lowered his eyes for a couple of seconds before looking back at Azazel. “Your lips might have said the words but your eyes spoke the truth.”

“My eyes,” Azazel whispered.

Uriel nodded. “It allowed me to see to the depths of your heart.”

“Is that a new ability you’ve gained over the years?”

“You could say that. In my line of work, I come across a lot of pretenders and have to figure out who's being truthful with me. It's a skill I wish I had thirty years ago, then maybe we wouldn’t have been separated.”

“We can’t go back and change the past, but we can embrace the future.” He pressed his forehead against Uriel’s. “I’ll never lie to you, sweet baby.”

“You better not.” Uriel leaned up and captured Azazel's mouth before he could say anything else.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Uriel leaned back, pantingfor breath, and slowly opened his eyes, gazing up at Azazel. “Is that the dessert you promised me?”

“It’s one part of it.” Azazel smiled.

“What’s the rest?”

Azazel smirked, and Uriel felt a spark run through him. “I know how much you love your sweets, so I got up this morning and thought about baking or buying all of your favorite treats, but I figured that would be overkill.”

“Just a bit,” Uriel agreed.

Azazel was an excellent cook. With time on his hands, he'd traveled the realms and world learning from famous chefs through the ages. One of the pampering Uriel didn’t mind, being with Azazel, was having the man cook him delicious meals.

“So what did you make?”
