Azazel furrowed his brows, not liking the sound of the person. “He sounds pushy. Is it someone trying to be a star?”
“I didn’t ask,” Tanner said. “He’s a kid.”
Azazel looked up at Tanner in confusion. “A kid? What’s his name?”
Tanner looked at the tablet in his hand. “Kristoph DeVine.”
“Kristoph?”Why does the DeVine sound familiar? “And you said it’s a kid?”
“Yes, sir.”
“How old is he?”
Tanner hummed. “I’d say around nine or ten.”
Azazel went to ask another question, but someone knocked on the door and opened it before he could respond.
“I know it’s rude to barge in, but I couldn’t wait anymore,” a childlike voice whispered.
Azazel stood and Tanner stepped out of the way, revealing a little boy with platinum-blond-and-black hair. His bangs were long but did not hide his red and pale gray eyes. He looked around the age that Tanner had stated, with an olive complexion.
Although he was dressed in jeans and a white button-down shirt, they were expensive. A quick turn of his head and Azazel saw the small diamond earrings in his right ear and wondered why Uriel allowed their kid to get his ear pierced so young.
The instant Azazel saw him, he knew deep in his heart and blood that the child belonged to him. Even from that distance, he could feel the threads of their bond forming the same way he had when he saw Donald for the first time. Not only that, he saw the resemblances of his son in the young child. It was as if they were twins.
The only difference was the person in front of him was a kid, while Donald was an adult. Azazel stared at the kid in shock as everything came into focus. The kid in the picture, Kristoph D.K. The one the casting director recommended and Azazel could not stop looking at. He hadn't thought about the kid since then, but to see him in the flesh took Azazel's breath away.
How did I miss the resemblance? Could the initials mean DeVine King? Oh shit, he's my kid.
“Sir, I’ll escort him out,” Tanner said and walked over to the child.
“Don’t touch him,” Azazel growled, then sighed, pulling back his emotions, realizing that he didn’t need to get angry at Tanner. “I’m sorry,” he said to Tanner. “Can you leave us alone? Hold all of my calls for the rest of the night. No one is to disturb us.”
Tanner seemed hesitant to leave, but nodded and walked out of his office.
“Father...” the kid started.
“Am I really your father?” Azazel said stupidly.
“Yes,” the child answered.
“And your name is Kristoph?” Although he knew the information, his brain was still processing everything.
The kid smiled. “Yeah, I was named after my grand-bearer. Dad said although he never met Granddad Kristoph, he knew he was a good man. He also said that was what you wanted to name your firstborn son.”
Azazel’s heart itched with indescribable emotions. He and Uriel had talked about having kids but wanted to get Dio out of their lives first. “Why didn’t he tell me about you?” He didn’t raise his voice, not wanting to scare the child.
“The same reason you met my little brother only three years ago. Things didn’t work out the way they should have.”
“Little brother?”
“Yeah, Donald. He and I are twins, but I was born first. He just had the chance to grow up faster. I’m still sore about that.” The kid pouted.
“Where’s Uriel? Why didn’t he tell me? Why is he hiding so many secrets from me?” Azazel could feel his anger growing the more questions he asked.
"Dad's working," Kristoph said.
"Call him, I want him here, I need to talk to him," Azazel said, trying not to let his anger out and scare the kid.
