“Exactly.” Uriel stood and kissed Kristoph on his forehead. “I’m not telling you to love everyone, but don’t hold on to everything. As for your father, he’s there any time you want to see him. From what I can tell, he’s not going anywhere.”
Kristoph nodded, seeming to be okay with his answers.
“All right, now that that’s settled, I’m going to shower before heading out.”
“You’re leaving again?”
“Yup, I need to meet with your uncles Kayne and Syn.”
“Really? Can I come with you?”
“You might be bored, it’s work-related stuff.”
“It’s cool. I still want to come.”
Uriel looked at his watch, seeing that it was still early, and decided that he and Kristoph could spend some time together after he spoke with Kayne and Synder. Uriel had been working quite a lot for the past couple of weeks and hadn’t spent a lot of time with his son. It didn’t help that Kristoph was about to start school in a couple of weeks.
“All right, let me get healed and cleaned up then we’ll head out.”
“Where are you guys going?”
Both Uriel and Kristoph looked in the door’s direction when they heard Orion’s question. Orion Blackwood had been by Uriel's side for over thirty years. When the twins were born, the first place he went was to the unicorns and centaurs, begging for shelter and safety until he could figure out what to do next.
However, Sagittarius Bloodmoon the leader of the unicorn and hippocentaur blessing refused to help Uriel for fear that Dio would bring war to their peaceful world. Uriel was at a loss for what to do until a unicorn shifter stepped forward and said he would care for the children.
At the time, Uriel had been so grateful he couldn’t contain himself. The unicorn who had volunteered was Orion, the unicorn blessing leader’s youngest son. The leader loved Orion and was about to refuse, but he also couldn’t deny his son’s pleas, and gave Uriel an ultimatum. They’d take one child and would put him in a magical status, stopping his growth until Uriel returned.
Uriel didn’t want to separate his family but saw he had no choice. He figured he’d only be gone for a couple of days. And so he gave Kristoph to Orion’s care and left to find another place to hide the second child.
Uriel hadn’t expected to encounter Dio not long after he left the blessing. Orion was true to his word and guarded Kristoph until he returned. When he returned after twenty years of imprisonment, Orion followed Uriel, and their friendship bloomed, becoming blessed and magical brothers in all but blood. Uriel noticed Orion’s eyes scanning his body, stopping at the bruises on his face.
“Did you piss someone off again?”
Uriel smirked. “You know me, I don’t back down from a fight.”
Orion snorted, shaking his head in disapproval. “Just be careful.” Other than his son, his friends knew his true nature and weren’t afraid to pull him back from the edge whenever he went too far.
“Got a date, I take it?” Uriel asked, quirking a brow. Orion was dressed in his best fuck-me-now clothes and his hair was slicked back. Uriel knew he wouldn’t be coming home for the night.
Orion waggled his eyebrows, and Uriel chuckled. “Once I knew you were home I made a date.”
“Always have someone waiting at your beck and call, huh?” Urielk said.
“You know me.” Orion smiled. “You didn’t answer my question,”
“I’m meeting with Synder and Kayne about a new client.”
“Ah,” Orion said, shoving his hands into his pockets. “Staying at the penthouse tonight?”
“Yup, we’ll probably just stay there from now on since Kris starts school soon.”
“All right then,” Orion said, “I’ll be off.” He looked at Kristoph then back at Uriel. “Call me if you guys need me.”
“No worries. Enjoy yourself for the next few days,” Uriel said.
“Oh, believe me, I will,” he smirked, then disappeared in a flash.
Uriel chuckled, shaking his head. He’d heard that unicorns were pure and innocent creatures, but when he’d met Orion, he learned that was all a myth.
