“Oh yeah.” Fox pushed Alistaire down on the couch then straddled his legs. He was inches away from kissing his man before two things happened. Ava knocked and walked into their bedroom without waiting for a response, and Genesis started crying.

“You guys continue with what you’re doing. I'll go get her,” Ava said, hurrying into Genesis’s room. He also didn’t miss the blush on her cheeks.

“This is not going to be easy, is it?” Alistaire leaned his head back on the couch.

Fox chuckled. “Nope, but I don’t regret it. We’ll figure things out.”

“Can I get a rain check for tonight?”

Fox pressed their lips together in response.

Chapter Fifteen

Fox smiled, looking down at the gift he’d gotten for Alistaire. He was delighted with the Christmas gift he’d bought and hoped Alistaire liked it.

After searching every store he could think of and not finding anything he wanted to get for his mate Fox had gone back to Montgomery Antiques. He had been looking through the furniture, not finding anything to his liking before moving over to the jewelry section.

In all the time he knew Alistaire, he couldn’t remember seeing him wear any sort of jewelry. Sighing in disappointment, he was about to walk away when he spotted the matching wedding bands. They were sterling silver with eighteen karat gold connected knots going around the entire band.

How come I didn’t see these the last time I was here?

“Did you find something interesting?” Rafe Montgomery asked.

“I think so.” Fox pointed to the bands. “Is there a history behind those rings?”

Rafe opened the case and pulled out the rings, setting them down on a velvet cloth. “These are Celtic warrior shield wedding bands. They represent quite a few things.”

“Like love?”

“Of course, it is essential in a relationship.” Rafe smiled.

“But these rings also represent strength, partnership, and loyalty as well as shelter and protection,” a new voice said beside him. Fox turned and looked at the man who seemed to show up everywhere he was lately. Mister James looked at Fox, his brown eyes boring into his, bringing back the uncomfortable emotion once again. James picked up the rings and studied them before looking at Fox. “These rings specifically represent a strong bond between the wearers that can never be broken...even in death.”

“That’s correct,” Rafe said excitedly. “It seems you know quite a few things about antiques.”

Mister James smiled, not looking away from Fox. “I’ve done my fair share of studying history.”

“So, what do you say, Fox. Are you going to buy these rings?”

Thinking over Rafe’s question, Fox looked away from Mister James and smiled. He loved what they represented when he thought about Alistaire wearing a symbol of his love and the building strength of their partnership. He had no choice but to buy them.

“I’ll take them,” he’d told Rafe. He ignored Mister James and pulled out his credit card, not even asking how much they cost. He wasn’t going to put a price on love.

“What are you doing?”

Fox’s eyes widened when he heard Alistaire behind him. He turned, keeping his hands behind his back—hiding the gift he’d bought as he glared daggers at Emma. The little creature hadn’t warned him his mate had entered the room.

You’re seriously no help.He told Emma with his eyes. The cat seemed completely unfazed, meowed, then curled up and went to sleep.

“Nothing,” Fox answered Alistaire.

“Why don’t I believe you?”

“Because you’re overthinking things.”

“If you say so.” Alistaire walked closer to him, and Fox held on tighter to the jewelry box, hoping his mate didn’t notice. “Ava and I are heading over to see my grandmother. I promised we’d take her to lunch.”

Fox leaned closer to Alistaire and kissed him on his lips. “Okay, you two have fun. Say hello to Rosemary for me.” Fox turned Alistaire around by his shoulder and ushered him out of their bedroom.
