Page 33 of His Time to Love

Fox had always loved the deepness of Vale’s voice. It had a sexy calmness to it. “It depends.” Fox pulled off the doorway, shoving his hands in his sweatpants pockets, slowly moving closer to Vale.

Vale narrowed his eyes so hard it became impossible to see his green eyes. “On what?”

“You shouldn’t do that,” Fox said in response.

“Do what?” Vale growled.

“Frown like that. It hides your beautiful eyes.”

Vale huffed and crossed his arms over his chest, glaring intently at Fox.

What the hell is up with this attitude?

“I guess I should start by thanking you for saving my life,” Fox said.

Vale looked down, pinching the bridge of his nose. “You didn’t answer my question.” Vale looked at him, ignoring his words. “What does it depend on?”

“What are you doing here?” Fox asked. “I planned on coming to see you after I had gotten the hang of everything. I would have called you, but I didn’t have your number…”

“I didn’t come here to see you,” Vale said, cutting him off. “And I don’t want your thanks for doing my job.”

“Who wouldn’t want to be thanked for saving a man’s life?”

Fox knitted his brows, wondering what happened to Vale. In his past life, the other man took great joy in the good deeds he did for others—reveling in their appreciation.

“I’m not like anyone else,” Vale snapped.

“Why the hell are you so damn touchy?” Fox growled.

“Why the hell are you trying to piss me off?” Vale argued back.

“All I did was ask you a damn question. What the hell is wrong with you, Vale? I just met you, and you’re acting as if we slept together, and I snuck out in the middle of the night then started ghosting your calls.”

They stared at each other for a few seconds before Vale swiftly moved closer to Fox, grabbing him around the waist, backing him up against the wall, slapping a fist against the wall next to his head.

“You’re stepping over the line, Captain Vale. First, you saw me naked. And now I’m in your arms. What’s your fucking purpose?”

“Who are you?” Vale’s green eyes grew more intense as he peered into Fox’s face.

I can’t tell you.

“What the fuck kind of question is that?”

Fox pushed against Vale’s chest, but the man wouldn’t budge in the least. A mixture of emotions rushed through him like a strong and heavy wave stealing his breath away. Fox’s skin prickled as his heart was beating loudly in his chest, he felt light-headed, and his vision blurred a bit, yet he didn’t feel as if he was dying as he did in the hospital. Although his body was confused on the inside, he was very calm on the outside.

“Answer my damn question,” Vale demanded, unaware of the effect he was having on Fox.

“Keep holding me like this, and I’ll get the wrong idea, Captain Vale,” Fox smirked, circling an arm around Vale’s neck, evading his question. The emotions flooding inside of him grew more intense, as did Vale’s expression.

Fox went to tease Vale a bit more, but the door opening had Vale releasing and stepping back from him quickly.

“Vale, what are you doing here?”

Both Fox and Vale turned towards the door, hearing his cousin, Dilen, who was in the middle of taking off his coat.

“I came with my grandmother Rosemary,” Vale answered.

“Oh, gotcha.” Dilen hung up his coat then walked over to Fox, wrapping an arm around his shoulder. “Hey, stranger, sorry I haven’t been around in a while. How are you adjusting?”
