Cell phones do come in handy for the more beautiful things in life.Scott couldn’t wait to take a few more pictures.Maybe I’ll use my ropes next time.

Quintus was laying on the bed, a ball gag in his mouth, legs and arms spread apart and tied to the headboard and footboard. His golden skin and long, black hair looked incredible against the red sheets.

“Should you be looking at that kind of thing at work?”

“Do you have a thing against using a damn door?” Scott shut off his phone, setting it face down on his desk before looking at Fenrir.

“Why would I need to use a door when I have the power to enter any room I want?”

“It’s called courtesy.”

“I didn’t want to bother your assistant,” Fenrir shrugged. “He’s a bit too hyper for my taste, like he’s had too much coffee.”

“Whatever," Scott answered but couldn't help but smile—it wasn't the first time someone had told him Marlow was hyper. "So why are you here?”

“When were you going to tell me, you’ve been seeing my old man?”

“I wasn’t aware that I needed to inform you about my patients.”

“Cut it out, Scott. I’m serious.” Fenrir’s tone told him it wasn’t the time to be flippant.

“He showed up a couple of weeks ago asking for my help to change,” Scott started.

“And you fucking believed him?” Fenrir snapped. “How many times have I told you he’s never to be trusted? He uses words dipped in honey, and when you’re not looking is when he stings you.”

“Of course, I didn’t believe him. But I told him I would help if he truly wanted it. I’m a doctor. It’s what I’m supposed to do. Plus, I was hoping he would slip up and tell me what he’s up to.”

“He’s the fucking god of tricks, Scott. How did you think you would try to get a man who is as cunning and smart as him to slip up? He uses beguiling words to get you to do what he wants. Better gods have tried to go up against him and lost.” Fenrir shook his head in disgust. “You can’t help a man hell-bent on revenge and power, Scottland. Don’t you see? This is his way of trying to break the connection you and I have. He despises the fact that you and I are so close. His hatred for Baldur knows no bounds. Please, don’t try to go up against him.”

“Do you think I am as weak, also?” Scott growled.

“What the fuck are you talking about?” Fenrir snapped.

“He thinks I’m weak, which is why he thinks I shouldn’t become the next Odin,” Scott told Fenrir.

“Dammit, that's the shit I'm talking about." Fenrir growled. "He tries to get into your head with doubt. He was trying to use you. Not only to hurt your father, but me. He hates that I value you as the brother of my soul.”

“Is that why you and your sisters cut your links with him?”

“I don't know why my sisters cut their links with him. But on my end, it was time. I can't have him in my life. Believe it or not, there are times I’d hoped he would change his ways, but it will never happen." Fenrir stood and went to sit by the window, looking out of it. "The wolf I've been searching for is my mate, and I cannot have him intervening. I'm tired of being lonely, Scott. I wasn't born to be loved, my birth was for the sole purpose of carrying out Loki's vengeance. But I couldn't do it. I saw what love was like for you with Alec, and now your mate. I want that. Fuck, even Kingston found some alpha to boss around. I'm tired of being led around by a man who never had a drop of love for me. I want someone to see me as Fenrir and not some gods forsaken mutt who was cast aside.”

Scott stood and walked over to Fenrir, pulling the larger man into a hug. "I'll help you find your mate. Because I want to see you happy too, Fen.”

“You've always stood by me, even when others turn their backs on me. Why? Why would you risk the power you have over the gods...for me? You know what I did was wrong, I turned a human into a wolf because something inside of him called out to me.”

No one understood him. But Scott saw the real Fenrir. None of the other gods saw his pain, because they refused to see him as a person. Scott leaned back and looked into Fenrir's ruby eyes.

“No matter what, I will stand by you. I know you're jealous of my friendship with Chance…" Fenrir scoffed, but Scott ignored it. "But you've been my best friend since the day we first met. I remember holding onto your finger as a babe, and never letting go. And I won't now. I love you, Fen. You're a pain in my ass half the time, but I need you in my life just as you need me.”

“I was supposed to kill you that day," Fenrir said, shocking Scott, but he didn't step back from his cousin.

“What day?”

“The day we met.”

“But you were just a child," Scott said, not believing what he'd just heard.

“I know, but I couldn't do it," Fenrir said. "He told me he'd love me like a father should, if I did what he asked. I wanted his love so badly, I was willing to kill you. But the second you looked into my eyes and smiled, I knew I would never gain his love.”
