“You don’t have time.”
They both turned and looked, seeing his uncle Mohe standing at the door.
“How did you know we were here?”
“I told you, Vale Valley showed me. Now go, your large wolf is losing strength,” he said, walking into the room and over to Sareena.
“Where are the others?” Scott asked.
“They are tied up cleaning up the town, it seems your uncle had more tricks up his sleeve. Now go,before the wolf dies,” he said to Scott. “Quintus, I’m going to need your help. The first cub is crowning.”
Quintus nodded and kissed Scott. “Don’t die on me. You promised me eternity.” He stepped away from Scott and over to his sister and uncle, concentrating on bringing his nieces or nephews into the world.
* * *
Scott backedout of the room and held onto the wall for strength, trying not to fall to his knees. He couldn’t stop, not yet, but it was getting hard to move. Quintus was safe, and he needed to make sure Loki didn’t kill Fenrir. Making his way downstairs, he was thrown to the ground when Fenrir’s large wolf landed on top of him.
By the force of it, he screamed—his body felt as if a massive boulder was crushing him. Scott’s body burned and hurt at the same time, he felt as if he was going to die. For the first time since he was a child, he called on the one who could give him relief.
“Odin. Save me, please.”
The second Scott uttered the words, he threw his head back and howled in pain—his fangs elongated, and his body burned from the inside out. Scott felt as if he was about to die. Everything inside of him felt like every organ in his body was changing. Scott’s body convulsed as he heard chanting around him. He tried opening his eyes to see but couldn’t.
Scott felt as if everything was moving around him along with the noise and the pain, he thought he was going to go crazy. And as suddenly as it had all started, everything stopped. The world went silent, except for his heavy breathing.
Slowly, Scott opened his eyes and sat up. He looked around, and everything shifted so quickly, he thought he was seeing things. He saw Donald going up against Loki, only to be swatted like a little bug. He turned beside him and saw Zion lying face down on the ground, but Scott knew the kid wasn’t dead. It was as if he could feel the boy’s heart beating in the ground under his palms.
“Well look who is finally awake.”
Scott looked back at Loki, who was walking over to him and then to Fenrir, who was still passed out on his leg. Loki kicked Fenrir, sending his body across the yard and grabbed Scott by the neck. He was still a bit weak from receiving his manifested powers.
“You’ve been a thorn in my side long before you were born.”
“And I’ve hated you since the day I met you,” Scott told him struggling for breath.
“Haven’t you wondered?” Loki asked d. “Wondered how I set this all up?”
“I’ve been a bit busy trying to save my mate.”
Scott grabbed onto Loki’s arm, and felt something wash over him. Balling his other hand into a fist, he punched Loki in the stomach, sending him back just enough for him to release Scott’s neck.
What the fuck just happened?Scott felt his strength returning.
“Son of a bitch,” Loki said, getting off the ground. “Why did it have to be you? You have his undying love, and now you’ve gained his strength and power. Why must you get every fucking thing I want!”
He launched himself at Scott who was ready for his attack. Swinging his arm, he connected with flesh and bones. He didn’t let up and continued to send hit after hit at Loki. With each connection, Scott felt like his body growing stronger—as if someone was lending their powers to him. With one last hard hit, he sent Loki flying across the yard. He landed against a large tree, breaking it in half.
Odin’s power.
Scott had heard stories as a child of how strong Odin was—like being able to kill another god with his bare hands. Scott could feel his new powers coursing through his body as he stood in the middle of the yard, waiting to see if Loki was going to get up again. He wasn’t disappointed when the god struggled to stand, but still came after him.
Scott grabbed Loki’s arm and flung him to the ground with all the strength he had left inside of him. He wasn’t in the mood for a long fight and didn’t plan on playing any more of the god’s tricks. He wanted things done and over with.
Scott stooped down, looking at Loki. “You have been a thorn in everyone’s side for so long, I doubt anyone knows what to do with you. I get you hate Odin, my bearer, and me by default. But your hate has eaten away any good you had inside of you. Odin didn’t promise you the world, Loki. He promised to give you a better life than the one you had. You took that for granted.”
“So,” Loki coughed up blood, and Scott felt a small bit of pity for him. “You’re going to turn your back on me as everyone else did?”
“That’s what you want, isn’t it?”
