“I said I might be pregnant. I didn’t say I was. I still need to go to the doctor and let them do their tests.”
“You can’t be seen by any of the doctors in Vale Valley.” It was time to tell Quintus the truth of who he was. Scott turned his head and looked at his mate.
“Why not? There are wonderful doctors at Vale General. Did you know the hospital is of the nest and specializes in male pregnancies?”
“Kitty, I know all of that. I was here when the hospital was built, and I knew what Rosemary wanted. She hired the best doctors to work at Vale General.”
“So, if you know all of that, then why can’t I see a doctor at the hospital?”
“Because you are having the great-grandchild to the god of gods, also known as Odin.”
Quintus stared at him for a few moments before he barked out a laugh. Scott wasn’t expecting that kind of response. He was expecting Quintus to freak out like he had when Scott had told him his family was wealthy and what his parents did for a living. Scott sat up and watched his mate laugh, holding his stomach.
“Oh, my gods. Scott, that is funny as hell,” Quintus said between laughs.
“I’m not joking, Quintus,” he said seriously. “I’ve wanted to tell you this for a while. But the last time I tried to tell you more about my family you freaked out. So, I held back.”
Quintus stopped laughing and looked at him. “You’re serious?”
“I am.” He scrubbed his face roughly and ran his hands through his hair.
“I am the son of Baldur—the god of light, joy, beauty, and purity. He’s also known as the blessed god, and that makes me a demigod.”
Quintus got out of bed and started pacing the room, he stopped a few times and looked at Scott. “Say something,” Scott begged.
“I shouldn’t be surprised, right? I mean this is Vale Valley, and anything is possible.” He started pacing again and then stopped to look at Scott. “My uncle Mohe said you were strong. His exact words, were ‘you seem like you have the blood of the gods running through your veins’.”
“He wasn’t wrong,” Scott added.
“No, he wasn’t.”
Scott watched Quintus and was glad he wasn’t freaking out like the last time. But he felt a little confused.
“There’s more,” Scott said.
“Like what?” Quintus stopped pacing and looked at him.
“When Odin agreed to let Baldur mate with the son of Lord Dracul, it was under the condition that his second boy child would become the heir to Odin.”
“Wh…what does that mean, Scott? I’m seriously trying to process this whole thing.”
“It means if Odin dies—which will never happen. Or he steps down from his throne—again, something that will never happen. I am to take his place.”
“You’ll be the next Odin?” Quintus mumbled looking at Scott.
They stared at each other for a bit. Scott wasn’t sure if he should get up and go to his mate. He could understand the shock he’d just dump onto his mate’s lap.
“I…I need to tell you something,” Quintus said after their long pause of silence. “I’ve been hiding this from you when I should have told you before we became mates. I tried telling you once but chickened out.”
“What is it? You know you can tell me anything, right? Hell, I just told you about me being a demigod. Nothing you tell me will make me see you any different. So trust me with your secrets as I trust you with mine.”
Quintus nodded but didn’t say anything. “I…I k…killed my father when I was seven.”
Scott sat on the bed for a few moments staring at Quintus and wondering if he’d heard his mate correctly. Looking at Quintus’s face made him realize how much his mate was holding onto his guilt.
Wow, me being a demigod pales in comparison to that.
Standing to his feet, he wrapped his arms around Quintus.
