“Shouldn’t Sirius be home by now?” His grandmother asked.

He looked down at his watch and noticed the time, she was right, but he knew being mated to a doctor came with odd hours. “Yeah, but he might have had an emergency or something. He’ll be home soon.”

Al…Alphonso!

Alphonso stopped what he was doing when he heard Sirius calling to him through their mental link. They’d used the link often, but it was usually during sex, never at a long distance.

Sirius, he reached out but didn’t get a response. He had a strange feeling that something might be wrong. He wasn’t happy that they still haven’t the person who’d attacked Sirius on Valentine’s night. He walked out of Tamia’s room wondering if maybe being somewhere else he’d be able to hear Sirius clearer. He stood at the sink in his kitchen and tried again.

“Sirius!”

“Alphonso, thank the gods.”

“What’s wrong?”

“It’s Naheem. He’s the one that attacked me a couple of months ago.”

“Where are you?”

“We’re in the hospital parking garage. Hurry, Alphonso, he’s got us cornered, and I’m not sure how long Nicholas can hold him off.”

Before he could hear the rest, Alphonso yelled for his grandmother. “Nana, I need you to stay with Tamia.”

“What’s wrong?” she asked hurrying down the stairs.

“It’s Naheem, he’s the one that attacked Sirius and now he’s got Sirius and Nicholas cornered in the hospital parking lot.”

“Oh my gods,” she said in surprise. “Go, I’ll get in touch with Bedwyr and LaMarkus.”

Alphonso nodded, and with his vampiric speed he rushed out of the house and made it to the parking lot in moments. As soon as he was going to enter, he was thrown back violently, landing on his back.

“What the fuck?” He yelled getting back up and ran towards to entrance again only to be thrown back once again. Getting up he walked over to the entrance and reached out, feeling the magical wall that was stopping him from getting inside.

“Sirius, I’m here, but I can’t get inside. Naheem put up a fucking barrier.”

“Shit, there has to be another way for you to get inside.”

“I’ll find a way. How are you and Nicholas holding up?”

“Not good, Nicholas is hurt badly, and I can’t treat him.”

Thinking quickly Alphonso went over to the hospital doors and was happy when they opened automatically. Sending a quick message to his mate, Alphonso could hear the worry in his mate’s voice as he ran into the hospital, taking the stairs to the floor he knew Sirius liked to park on. He could hear Nicholas and Naheem throwing spells at each other.

Not needing to assess the situation, the only thing he cared about was getting his mate away from danger. With his quick speed, he grabbed Naheem by the face and threw him hard against the wall. Rage and anger that had built up in him gave him the energy as he walked over to the man and picked him up by his neck and slammed him into the hard pavement. If he wasn’t dead after the first throw, he would be before anyone could get to them.

Sirius saggedagainst the wall the second he saw Alphonso throw Naheem. He didn’t have time to catch his breath fully when he saw Nicholas drop to his knees and then tilt to the side, falling to the ground. Nicholas had used up his energy protecting him and his baby against Naheem.

“Alphonso, I need you,” he yelled for his mate who was by his side instantly.

“Are you okay? What about the baby?” he growled.

Sirius had never seen his mate in his vampiric state before, to other’s he might look scary with his canines bared, his brows creased, and his eyes glowing like neon green lights, but Sirius knew he didn’t have to fear his mate.

“We are both fine, thanks to Nicholas, he protected us, and now I need to save his life.”

Sirius watched as Alphonso’s face turned back to normal. “Okay, what do you need?”
