“Yeah, that’s it.”

As they talked a vision formed in Brenden’s mind, he was getting the sinking feeling that he knew exactly who it was. But he just couldn’t believe it. What he was thinking had to be wrong. He was about to ask a distinct question when his phone rang and the name of the person he was thinking might have taken his son was flashing on his screen.

“Where’s my son, Paige?” he asked answering his phone, and that got everyone’s attention in the room. Brenden put a hand to his lips telling everyone in the room to be quiet. He looked at Jaxson, who stood and pulled out his phone to call the office so they could put a trace on Paige’s location. Brenden jotted down Paige’s number in his hand and showed it to his partner. Jaxson nodded and walked out of the room. “I want to know one thing—why did you take my son?”

“It was the only thing I could think of to get you to notice me,” she answered him.

“I saw you the other day, Paige,” he told her trying to keep calm.

“But did you see me, Brenden? I want you to look at me and see how good we can be together. Better than that man. I watched you with him and the brat. Watched as you held him with such care. And wondered why you never held me like that. The way you made love to him, and I was jealous that you never loved me the same way I loved you.”

Brenden heard the venom dripping in her voice. So, she hates Stephen. How long was she watching them?

“Where are you, Paige? Let’s meet somewhere so we can talk about this.”

“Not yet,” she told him.

“Why not?” he asked her.

“Because there’s something I want you to do for me. I love you, Brenden, and I know you love me too. You’re being brainwashed by that man. I saw the disgusting things he did to you. Throwing himself on you. And now he wants you to believe he’s pregnant with your child. A child I think is abnormal. That child is a mistake, just like the serum that allowed that man to get pregnant. I curse Morgan Leap and hope he is rotting in hell for what he’s caused. But that is why I’m here. I’m here to save you, my love. And once I get you away from him, you will finally see we are made for each other.”

Brenden felt sick to his stomach. How did this happen? Questions swirled in his mind. “What do you want me to do, Paige?”

“Do you think about that night, Brenden, because I do?”

“What night?”

“The night I showed up at your house, and you made sweet love to me.”

“I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about, Paige. I haven’t touched you since—”

“It’s a shame you don’t remember,” she cut him off. “You were pretty drunk.”

Brenden closed his eyes hoping something would come to him but nothing. “Paige, I haven’t touched you in months,” he said trying to convince her of the truth.

“God, you were amazing,” she continued ignoring him. “You were so gentle and sweet.”

“Paige, for God’s sake,” he said opening his eyes and looked around the classroom.

“I should feel offended that you don’t remember our special night together. But to be honest I couldn’t help myself, Brenden. I knew you needed me. I could tell from the minute you pulled up and got out of your car.”

Brenden gasped and it was as if a movie was playing in his mind on rewind and it all came back to him. The night he found out about the baby and got totally shit-faced. But he remembered telling Paige to go home before going into his house and locking the door. Then he remembered waking up the next morning to the sound of a door closing and a car driving off.

“How did you get into my house?” he asked her.

“I used my key, silly.”

“I never gave you a key, hell I never even invited you to my house!” He was getting angry and he shouldn’t; his son’s life was on him keeping his cool.

“Temper, temper. Remember, Brenden, if you get angry at me that little boy will pay the price.” She chuckled then hummed.

Brenden closed his eyes trying to tamper his anger and knew Paige was right. She had the upper hand for a little while.

“But to answer your outburst. I’ve been following you and that man for a while. And I saw everything. It made me so happy when I saw as you two argued that night. I knew that would be the perfect night to comfort you, and you almost ruined it. I watched and waited until I knew you were asleep, before I snuck in to your house and, well, you know the rest.”

Brenden felt sick to his stomach to know he was violated without his knowledge or consent.

“That night we created something special,” she whispered and Brenden closed his eyes praying she wasn’t telling him what he was thinking. “I couldn’t wait to tell you the news. I had it all planned out, I would invite you over for a romantic dinner and surprise you. But—”
