“I’m going to bed.” I spin on my heel and head for the doorway when his voice stops me.
“What in God’s name are you wearing?” he asks and I turnback around to find his disapproving eyes raking over me over the top of his newspaper.
“It’s Sofia’s. She let me borrow it.”
“Well, you look like a whore.” He says it so casually. His harsh words have another wave of tears stabbing at the backs of my eyes. “I can’t have my daughter dressed looking likethatin public. I have a re—”
“A reputation to uphold,” I finish for him. “Yeah, I know.”
His precious reputation is all my father is ever concerned about.
And God forbid I do anything to taint it.

“Nice work. That’s one way to get her into bed, brother,” Jett shakes his head, smirking as the door swings shut behind Kaia, her best friend Sofia hot on her heels.
“Fuck off,” I tell Jett. “Get me another beer, would you?”
“Since you asked so nicely.”
Pissing her off wasn’t my greatest move given I’m supposed to be trying to get into those wound up little panties of hers and our heated little chat has made it close to impossible, but it’s only made me more determined.
She got under my skin, spewing a load of regurgitated bullshit she no doubt learned from her piece of shit father, thinking she knows me when she knows nothing.
Nobody does.Not really.
Jett pops off the cap and slides the bottle along the bar top towards me.
“Thanks, man.”
Jett was the first guy I bonded with when I joined Lawless, and we quickly became best friends, though we fight more like brothers. Love him like one, even if he does piss me off occasionally.
Two girls head in my direction, their eyes taking in every inch of my exposed upper body. It’s a look I’ve seen a million times. I shoot them a wink and they giggle with each other as they walk by.
I turn back to Jett who rolls his eyes with a shake of his head. “Think you could maybe put on a shirt, brother? No reason for you to put all of us guys to shame.”
“Am I making you feel insecure, Lawson? That sounds a lot like ayouproblem to me,” I tease, pulling the rolled up t-shirt from the back pocket of my jeans, tugging it over my head. “Do I meet your approval now?”
“Delightfully so, my self-esteem is restored.”
I laugh with a shake of my head. “I’ll catch you later, man,” I tell him before heading to join a few of my brothers in one of the booths.
Ray, Cru and one of our prospects, Beau are sat around the table, laughing.
They greet me as I pull up a chair next to Ray.
“Great fight, man,” Beau offers.
I go to respond but movement catches my attention and I spot Sofia searching the bar before her eyes settle on me. She stomps over in her four inch stilettos, coming to a stop at ourtable. “What did you say to her?”
I sit back in my chair. “Who?” I ask, feigning ignorance.
Her hands find her hips. “Who do you think?Kaia. What the hell did you say to make her so upset?”
“Nothing she didn’t bring on herself, spewing shit about me like she fucking knows me.”
“She’s my best friend, Killian.”
