I went out for a smoke to give Drew a break. It’s clear he doesn’t have as high a tolerance to pain as I do, which is surprising considering his violent upbringing.

Before he started prospecting for Lawless, he was a part of our rival crew, The Cobras which was led by his uncle, Tobias. When he kidnapped Allie a few months back, it turned out Drew is Allie’s estranged little brother. Neither one of them knew the other existed. We exterminated the bastards in retaliation for Allie’s kidnapping, forced the last few remaining members out of town with their tails between their legs and warned them never to return. And I’m guessing with some easy persuasion on Allie’s part, Myles agreed to let Drew join the club.

This is his first session of ridding himself of his last remaining tie to The Cobras, by removing their emblem etched in ink on his skin.

I hate laser removals. They’re long and time consuming and don’t carry the same satisfaction for me as a completed tattoo, not to mention they’re not known to be the most comfortable for the clients. It hurts like a fucking bitch, but there’s no doubt the end result will be worth it. It’s the next step on his journey to becoming a full patch member of Lawless.

I bring the laser gun up to his skin, picking up from where I left off. Drew braces himself, his fingers biting into the leather armrests as I turn on the gun. He flinches as the first pulse of light hits his skin, the black ink slowly breaking downwith every flash from the gun.

“What do you think will happen with the new sheriff?” Drew asks, probably to distract himself from the pain.

“No clue, but whatever happens it won’t be good, not with Mayor Watson pulling his strings.”

“Do you think they’ll come after the club?”

The corner of my mouth lifts. “They can try, but they won’t succeed. We’ve dealt with bigger fish, little cobra.”

He shoots me a look I know all too well and I laugh. He hates that nickname.

“When you gonna stop calling me that?” he asks.

“When we get rid of this fucking snake on your chest and replace it with a skull. You’reLawless, it’s in your goddamn blood. It’s about time we make it official, wouldn’t you say?”

His mouth widens in a smile. “Hell yes.”

That evening, I pull into the lot outside the clubhouse, backing into the space beside Jett’s Indian Scout Sixty Bobber and Cruiser’s Harley Davidson Fat Boy. Both beautiful fucking bikes that have me foaming at the mouth.

Thou shall not covet thy brother’s bike, I remind myself.

After switching off the engine, I head inside. We’re having a few minor repairs done to the interior of the clubhouse, so we’re spending most of our time at The Ape Hanger until the work is done, but the chapel is still functioning like normal.

It’s where the club business is conducted, the not-so-legal stuff, that is.

I’m the last one to take my seat to Myles’ right who sits at the head of the wide oak table in the centre of the room.

“About time,” Myles grumbles, clearly irritated by mytardiness as I drop into the chair to his right.

“Probably too busy dick deep in pussy,” Jett sniggers.

I ignore them both. My eyes find Cruiser across the table. “Give me some good news, brother.”

Cru blows out a breath. “I got nothing, man. I’m sorry.”

“You’re fucking kidding me?” I rage.

Myles sighs. “Nothing?”

“Nope. I dug as deep as I could, Prez. On paper, our new sheriff is as pure as a nun’s pussy. He’s as straight as they come, even his wife. I swear this guy is either the most by the book son of a bitch I’ve ever come across or he’s the sneakiest bastard who ever lived.”

“Or he has someone to help cover his ass,” Alex adds from beside Jett.

I huff out a laugh. “I don’t believe for a second Collins is as squeaky clean as he’d like people to believe. There’s got to be something we can use.”

“I did however, look into our dear old friend, Peter Watson. Now weallknow this guy is dirty, but he sure knows how to hide it.”

“So there’s nothing we can use on either of them?” I ask.

“I wouldn’t saynothing. The sheriff doesn’t have any family besides his wife. Watson however, has a daughter.”
