I wasn’t the greatest friend to her last year, in honesty, I never really acknowledged her expect for pleasantries and sharing notes. After losing my parents, last year was rough, and making friends was the last thing on my mind, but despite how closed off I was towards her, she still stuck by me, giving me the time I needed and offering support.
She never complained or got mad at me, I think deep down she understood. I don’t know why she was so patient with me, I think if I were in her shoes I would have given up a long time ago, which just shows the type of person she is.
I’m going to make more of an effort this year.
I’m going to be a better friend.
“It was okay. What about you, how was your summer?”
“Amazing! Me, my parents and my little brother went to Italy. It’s so beautiful Quinn, and the food is to die for!”
The waitress comes over to take our drinks order and returns a couple of minutes later with our drinks and a couple of menus.
“How’s your roommate, what’s her name… Hollie?” Amy asks, sipping her cola through her straw.
“She moved out to be with her boyfriend.”
“Really? Well that’s shit. So are you living alone now?”
“Yep and the rent is fucking ridiculous, I’ve already had two letters threatening eviction.”
“Are you serious? Jesus, you should have said something, I had a spare room you could have had.”
“And live with you and your parents? I don’t think they would take kindly to that. Thanks though. Honestly, it’s fine. Things will work out eventually.”
“Well, if you ever need anything, you know where I am.” She smiles sweetly.
“Thanks, I appreciate it.”
We order our food, Amy goes for the biggest burger on offer and seeing as I need to keep my figure, I opt for a salad.
“Look, Ames, I just wanted to say that I’m sorry about last year. I was a shitty friend and took you for granted. I pushed you out and gave you the cold shoulder most of the time. I feel so awful.”
“Quinn, it’s fine. I know you were going through a hard time, what with losing your parents and everything. I’ve always found it hard to make friends, especially through school, and when I saw you on that first day, I don’t know, I sort of gravitated towards you. Maybe I was just desperate for a friend and would do anything to be yours but…”
“Well, not to quoteToy Storyor anything, but you’ve got a friend in me.”
“Cheesy much,” she cringes and breaks into a laugh. “But thanks, you’ve got a friend in me, too.”
How is it possible that she struggled so much in school to make friends? Amy is so natural and comfortable in my presence that it makes it hard to believe.
After about half an hour, our food arrives and through our meal, my mouth salivates at the sight of the burger on Amy’s plate, one I so desperately wanted to order for myself.
“So what did you think to the new English professor? He’s absolutely gorgeous!”
“Yeah, I guess. He seems like a complete ass though.”
“Who cares? He’s ridiculously hot. And what he said to that bitch about her outfit, it was priceless!”
“Yeah, that was kind of great.”
“Well, I for one cannot wait for his next class, a little eye candy never hurt anybody right?”
“No, I guess it doesn’t.”
A little eye candy? Is she kidding? There’s not going to be a single girl in that room that won’t be blushing when he looks her way, not a single girl who’s panties won’t be soaked through as they walk out of his class.
That man is dangerous to the female population. It should be illegal that a man as drop-dead gorgeous as he is, be allowed to be a teacher.
