I snap the little box closed and shove it in my pocket before Amy sees it. I haven’t really planned out the whole proposal thing, I just figured I’d do it when the timing felt right. Romance never really was my strong suit, but three years on, I’m still learning.
“Teasing Vin about the time he tried to hook up with a girl and it turned out to be a guy,” I tell her and she sniggers.
“He looked like a fucking girl, okay? Jeez, gimme a break.”
“It’s an easy enough mistake to make, I mean, it happened to me once,” Amy says.
“Really?”
“No,” Amy replies, as a laugh rips through her, and Ty and I join in. I wrap an arm around her waist and tug her towards me, capturing her mouth with mine.
“What was that for?” she asks when I pull away.
“Do I need a reason to kiss you?”
“Never,” she says, smiling up at me. “I have something to tell you.”
“Okay…?”
“I got promoted. I am officially an editorial assistant!”
“Holy shit, Ames. That’s fucking fantastic!” I take her in my arms and spin her around, her feet a few inches off the ground. “I’m so proud of you, baby.”
After she graduated, Amy got a job at a local publishing house where she interned during college and she’s been breaking her back to succeed, though I was in no doubt that she’d go far.
“You’re dad would be so proud of you,” I say, dropping a kiss to her forehead.
Two years ago, Donovan and his gang were sent to prison, and it’s gonna be a long fucking time before they ever see the light of day again. After their sentencing, Amy was finally able to fully move on from what happened and get back to normal. I say normal, but really a new kind of normal, one without her dad. There’s still times when she misses him, and I make damn sure I’m there to love and comfort her when she’s at her lowest.
“Congratulations Amy,” Ty offers with a smile.
Vince gives her a wink. “Congrats, sweets!”
“We should celebrate. What d’ya say to a few drinks at our house tomorrow night? Invite Quinn and Dwight, your mom…”Our house, I still love how that sounds, and I literally can’t remember a time before Amy moved in. It seems so right that she’s there that the thought of her not there seems unfathomable to me.
“Sounds like a plan.”
I band my arm around her waist and pull her in so her body is flush against mine. “Though I can think of a few other ways to celebrate first…” I whisper so Ty and Vin can’t hear.
“Oh, you can, can you?” she asks playfully.
“Yep.” My mouth closes in on hers as I smile into her mouth.
“For the love of God, take her home before you rip each other’s clothes off right here.” Vin rolls his eyes though his mouth is curved up into a smile.
“I’ll follow you out,” I tell her, and after saying her goodbyes, she heads back out towards her car.
“Lo,” Vin begins, pulling me aside while Ty starts work on the beat-up Chevvy in the corner. “I know I joke around a lot, but I really am happy for you, dude. She’s a great girl, and you are one lucky bastard.”
“That I am,” I agree. “Thanks man.” We bump fists and then I pull him into a hug. I really am a lucky bastard, not because of the amazing girl I get to call mine, but because I have the bestest friends a guy could ask for.

Once Amy and I are through the front door, I waste no time in hauling her up into my arms and pinning her to the wall, kissing the ever-loving fuck out of her mouth.
God, she tastes so good.
I carry her up the stairs and drop her onto the bed, settling between her thighs while my fingers lace with hers as I pin her hands above her head. She moans into my mouth and the sound shoots straight to my cock.
