“Impressed by my wisdom, baby?” I smirk.

“Not especially.”

“I think you are, you just won’t admit that I’m right.”

“Go fuck yourself,” she giggles, shoving my shoulder playfully.

“I’d rather fuckyouinstead.”

She rolls her eyes and reaches behind her head for her pillow before hitting me with it. I snatch it away and toss it to the floor then roll on top of her, pinning her beneath me, and leaning down to seal my lips over hers. She moans into my mouth, weaving her fingers into my hair, clutching me to her as her legs wrap around my waist.

“I love you, Logan. Please never leave me.” The last part of her plea has my heart squeezing tight.

“Why would you ask that?”

“I don’t know, I just… I couldn’t stand losing you too.”

I move her hair from her face and stare into her eyes. “Where would I go?You’remy home, babygirl, and I love you more than words could ever say. You gave my life meaning the second you walked into it, it just took me a while to figure it out. I could never walk away from you. Ever.” I seal my promise with a soft kiss to her mouth. I have no home if she’s not there, I have no life without her in it. “I hate to break it to you, baby, but you’re stuck with me.”

“Is that a promise.”

“You bet.”

Chapter 32

Amy

One Month Later

“Happy birthday!” Quinn sings, embracing me in a tight hug the second the door opens. “Here! I got you something!” She pulls back and hands me my gift.

“It’s not another vibrator is it? Because if it is, please tell me, so I don’t die of embarrassment like I did last Christmas.” The sheer mention of Christmas has me cringing with the mental image of opening said vibrator in front of both my parentsandmy brother. It’s a moment that to this day I still can’t live down.

“No vibrator, I swear. This gift is strictly PG,” she confirms, drawing an invisible cross over her chest with her finger.

“Happy birthday, Amy,” Dwight says, pulling me into a loose hug, and it still messes with my mind that this guy was my professor not so long ago.

I lead them through the house to where my mom, brother and Graham are out in the back yard, Graham working on the barbeque, flipping over the burgers and sausages that sizzle on the grill.

Even though it’s my birthday, after everything that’s happened over the past few months, it feels odd to celebrate knowing that there are people missing, people that should be here with us. I try to push that thought aside and to enjoy today as best I can.

I grab Quinn and Dwight their drinks just as the doorbell rings.

“Hey there birthday girl!” Vince beams, planting a kiss to my cheek. “This is for you, sweets. Enjoy!” He passes me a bottle of champagne with a pink bow tied around the neck.

“Hey Amy. Happy birthday,” Tyler says with a smile, stepping inside behind Vince and handing me a card. “It’s not much, but Logan told me you liked reading, so there’s a gift card in there to go buy whatever books you like.”

“Thanks, guys. I appreciate it. Come on in, head out into the back, we’ve got a barbeque.”

“Sweet! I’m fucking starving!” Vince wastes no time and is on the move before I can say anything else. Tyler rolls his eyes before following his friend.

I peek out the front door, searching for Logan who is yet to show up, but there’s still no sign of him. Where the hell is he? He was due here almost an hour ago. My heart sinks a little as I close the front door and make my way back out to the garden.

“So, you’re finally twenty-one and guess what! Dwight, Logan and I are taking you out tonight to celebrate!” Quinn announces excitedly. “Where is he anyway?”

“I’m not sure,” I mutter with a shrug.

“He’ll be here.” Ty gives me a reassuring wink and something inside me settles.
