“Yeah, about that long. Last time I saw you, you were packing for college. How was it? Graham told me you quit.”
“Yeah, uh... It just wasn’t what I wanted anymore.”
“But you were in your last year, you were months from graduating. What changed?”
“Look, it’s nothing, okay? Can we just drop it?” he snaps.
“Sure, yeah. I’m sorry.”
An awkward silence falls between us and after a moment, he clears his throat. “So this uh… Logan guy... you guys dating or something?”
“I… I’m not sure what we are exactly. Why?”
“Dunno. Just seems like kind of douche to me,” David comments with a shrug.
I chuckle. “That’s funny, he said something along those lines about you.”
He leans forward. “He’s trash, Ames. I know his type.”
I’m a little taken aback by his comment. He barely knows Logan and he’s already passing judgements. “And what type is that exactly?”
“The type you can’t trust. You can do better than him. Not to mention he’s like what? Forty years old?”
“Thirty-four, actually,” I correct.
“Exactly. He doesn’t deserve you.”
I feel a surge of protectiveness rising inside me, a need to defend Logan, and I’m starting to think Logan was right about him being a dipshit all along.
“What would you know, David? We haven’t seen each other in years and you come here, judging one of my friends, someone who wastherefor me when my dad died, someone I happen to trust more than anyone. So you can save your judgemental bullshit and take it elsewhere.” I jump up from my chair and storm through the house towards the garage. My heart is pounding. I’ve never been one for confrontation but I wasn’t just going to sit back and let him trash talk on Logan.
Logan turns when he hears me approach, and he frowns when he takes in my face. “Everything okay?”
I nod. “I think you were right about David being a dipshit, though I think asshole is more like it.”
“I’m always right, babygirl, I know a dipshit when I see one.” He winks.
“Takes one to know one, I guess,” I tease with a grin.
“Touché.” He smirks. “So what did he do?”
“Nothing that needs repeating.”
His gaze flicks over my shoulder, and his grin fades, his eyes narrow as a low growl rumbles through his chest. Just before I can turn to see what he’s looking at, he pulls me into him and claims my mouth just as hard and desperate as the last time. One arm locks around my back while his free hand cups my face, his kiss harsh but his touch gentle. I melt into the kiss, my hands wandering over his upper body before coming to rest on his chest.
The kiss lasts for what feels like forever, but it’s not long enough as he breaks away, peering down at me, his eyes heated with lust. “I could kiss you all day,” he says in a low voice.
“I think I’d like that.”
He chuckles. “Oh, I know you would. You’d enjoy it very much.” He presses another quick kiss to my lips before releasing me, and the loss of his touch is instant. “So, there’s a part for the GTO I need and it’s not very easy to get a hold of. The one I found is a two and a half hour drive away. You wanna take a road trip with me tomorrow?”
“Absolutely. On one condition.”
“Okay…?”
“We do a lot more ofthat.” I smile.
“Oh, baby. I guarantee, we’ll be doinga lotmore of that. I’m not through with you yet.”
