It had been... seconds? since the last contraction. If Allie's contraction was starting again, this wasn't good.
Vega caught her eyes and Harmony could read a wealth of information in them.
Allie's husband, the father of the baby who was likely going to be born within an hour of its father's untimely passing, was gone.
There might not be an official time of death without the Medical Examiner, but she knew that Vega was good at his job. He would have looked for any sign of life.
Anything.
Pilar was off to the side but leaned in to speak almost directly into Harmony's ear. "The Medical Examiner is on his way."
With Allie on the gurney now, Harmony tested to see if Allie would let go of her hand.
Even with the gentle pull from Harmony, Allie was holding on with a death grip.
"Here," Pilar offered. "Let me help Vega get the gurney inside. Then, I'll hold..."
"Allie," Harmony provided the name to Pilar.
"Then I can hold Allie's hand. I'm sure you'll need both of yours."
Harmony smiled at the officer.
Pilar was just a smidge shorter than she was, but as an officer, no one could say she didn't belong on the force.
She'd shed more than enough blood on the job and hadn't blinked twice at coming back onto the force.
With a speed that almost made Harmony catch her breath.
Moments later, they had Allie in the back of the ambulance and the door canted so that her body was shielded from curious onlookers.
With a smile of encouragement from Pilar, Allie let go of Harmony's hand and latched onto Pilar's before the next contraction.
As soon as Harmony reached for the hem of Allie's skirt, Allie's hand reached down and grasped the fabric beside Harmony's hand. "W... wait."
Harmony looked up at Allie's face and saw red high on her cheeks. "Is something wrong?"
Allie opened her mouth to answer and pain nearly stole her breath. "I... I didn't get any panties on..."
Harmony smiled at her. "No worries, Allie." Deciding to go for a little shock to get her mind off of the issue, she added her own comment. "I don't have any other either."
Allie smiled then and her head fell back against the gurney as she laughed and groaned at he same time.
Her hand fell away from her skirt and Harmony lifted the hem to see where they were. "Okay, Allie. Can we bring your knees up? Okay, good. Very good." It didn't take more than a glance to know that they weren't going to make it to Cole Medical Center, even if it was just a handful of minutes away.
She smiled and looked up at Allie. "I can tell you two things, Allie. One, the baby has your hair color."
Allie turned her head to look back at Morgan, smiling. "Yeah?"
Harmony nodded. "Yes. And we're going to be meeting your baby in minutes. Are you with me?"
Tears welled up in her eyes. "Yes... Yes."
"Okay, then let's do this, together."
That's when Harmony let the world around her fade away.
The only thing that mattered in that moment was bringing Allie's baby into he world as best as she could.
