I stepped closer, placing my hands on his chest. “Westley, we are a party. Let’s not make a scene while we are here.” I could already feel we were drawing attention to our table.

“I don’t care.” Westley stepped forward, and I quickly wrapped my arms around him, pulling him toward me. Kyle and Ivan both stepped back. I could see that more people were pausing to look at us now.

My heart was racing, and I swallowed, trying to think of anything to get his attention. Westley looked ready to lose his shit. I could feel that he was vibrating, and I realized it wasn’t just anger, but his wolf must have been playing a factor in this.

Double shit.

“Westley, it’s fine.” I stepped closer, trying to get him to look at me, but he wouldn’t. His eyes were like a wolf looking at its prey.

Shit!!!

I stepped in between Kyle and Westley. I reached up, cupping his face. His eyes finally looked at me, and I leaned forward, kissing him. I felt him stiffen up. A couple of seconds seemed to tick by before I felt his arms wrap around me, and he kissed me back roughly, with a deep hunger.

I leaned into it, suddenly wanting more. I felt like I’d been invisible, and now he was finally seeing me.

I pulled back, panting for air. I leaned against his chest, suddenly feeling embarrassed knowing people were seeing this. We were in the back corner, but that didn’t mean we were invisible.

I looked over my shoulder, seeing that Kyle and Ivan were gone now. I was a little relieved, but I could still feel how stiff Westley was. We needed to leave. He was vibrating with anger still. I wasn’t a shifter, but I knew enough to know when a shifter needed to leave a situation, and this was it.

Chapter 10 - Westley

I could feel my body shaking with rage. My wolf was still growling angrily in my head, my mind racing. I felt like every nerve was on fire, and Gabriella was holding onto me. Her eyes were soft and worried, her touch light against my skin.

“Are you okay?” she whispered, stepping closer to me. I could smell her perfume. Vanilla.

I wanted to tell her I was, that I was fine, but I couldn’t. I would be lying. I looked around the room, not wanting to ruin Brandon’s party. Jade worked hard on setting this up, and the last thing I wanted was to wolf out and have her pissed off at me.

“I need air,” I admitted, expecting her to push me away.

She nodded, her hands dropping to grab mine. She tugged as she guided us past the tables and toward the back door. I held on to her hand, focusing on the warmth. I followed her as she slipped outside, and the cold air hit me. I took a deep breath in and felt her hand drop. She turned to me, still holding the worried expression.

“Are you okay? Do you need to go for a run or something?”

I shook my head. “I just need a moment.”

She tightened her arms around herself, and I watched her shiver. I took in her outfit, seeing she had dressed up for this. She looked stunning, and I didn’t want to ruin her evening. I frowned. “You can go back inside. I think I’m going to go home.”

She shook her head. “No, I’ll come with you. It gives me a good reason not to go back in there.”

I frowned. “Because you’ll get bullied?”

She shook her head. “Because I’m worried about you.”

We both fell silent. She stepped closer, grabbing my arm and tugging on it. “Come on, let’s go home.”

I followed as we headed for my car. We both got inside, but neither of us spoke. The drive was quiet, with just the sound of my music playing on a low setting. My wolf was going through several emotions. He wanted me to turn around and make a point to Kyle. He also wanted me to ravage Gabriella. I was shaking for two reasons now.

As we got inside, I kept thinking about how she just took everything. Gabriella didn’t fight back, and she didn’t tell anyone about what was going on. She was friends with Jade and Nora, who could help, but she didn’t tell them. It bothered me. She had connections that she could use. She was married to me now, and that had to mean something. Even if it was fake, it had meaning.

As we got inside, I paused, not able to move forward. “Why didn’t you do anything to stop them?”

She paused as she reached for her left boot. She frowned, looking down. “It wouldn’t make a difference.”

“It would,” I countered. “It could stop.”

“It’s not that simple, Westley.”

“How so?”
