I placed my hand over hers. “This was about you. Not me.”

She frowned. “But…”

I silenced her with another kiss. “Later. Go back to sleep.” I kissed her temple. “See you on the field, baby.”

The bus drove into the parking lot of the field house and I couldn’t have been more relieved. We’d continued our winning streak, but Krew strained his shoulder and I needed Julia to get a better look now that we were on our own turf.

“Krew.” She motioned. “Meet me in the training room.”

I followed Julia out of the bus, her brows furrowed and her belly protruding. She was getting farther along but still cleared to travel. She was due on the first of January, so we still had a few months with her on site.

“What do you think?” I asked her as we entered the building.

“Not concrete yet. But he might need to rest it a few days.” She glanced around before leaning into me. “I can’t stand that little shit, but you might have to let Jagger take lead for a few days.”

I knew he’d be all over it. Probably praying in his spare time that Krew got hurt and benched for the remainder of the season. As much as he rubbed me the wrong way, he was backup for a reason. He had talent.

As she disappeared through the doors to the training room, I turned to see Rodney and Trinity walking in together. She wassmiling, then laughed at something he said. I wanted nothing more for her than for them to heal their relationship, but it would have to start with him being honest with her. I just wasn’t in a place to tell him that yet.

“Update on Krew?” he asked as they met me halfway down the hall.

“Not yet. Julia has him back there now.” I glanced at Trinity, noticing how her eyes remained on the floor. Anywhere but on me. Rodney slapped my shoulder. “Let me know what she thinks. I’m headed out.”

“Sure thing.”

He walked away, leaving me and Trinity alone for a brief moment.

“Wait for me?” I asked in a low voice.

She nodded. “I’ve got some things to put away. Towels to get in the laundry. Come find me when everyone is gone.”

She walked past me but paused to look over her shoulder. “Great game, Coach.”

Then she sauntered down the hall.

Trinity

I scooped up a load of towels and tossed them into the washer before I dropped in a pod. I was glad to be back. Travel always sucked out all of my energy, but I still had a buzz beneath my skin. A buzz that hadn’t left since this morning. Since Preston’s mouth had been on me. Taking me places I’d never experienced. I wanted to return the favor, and initially, I felt embarrassed when he saidno, but the more I thought about it, the more I understood. He didn’t want me to think this was justsex. I got the message loud and clear. But now, I just wanted him.All of him.

Footsteps echoed behind me, and I couldn’t hide the smile on my face as I lifted a small towel from the clean batch I had dropped on the counter. The warm cotton slid through my fingers as the footsteps grew closer. My skin felt hot, the memory of Preston’s tongue and the way I fell apart for him. The way I felt cherished.

When his presence was finally within reach, his chest to my back, I sighed, relieved that we had another stolen moment. Justus. I casually leaned back, resting my back to his front as if I’d been waiting all day to feel his arms. Because I had.

I was fearful to admit it, but I was beginning to like Preston Rusk more than I intended. My feelings were evolving and there was nothing I could do to stop it. It was like free-falling out of an airplane. It was exciting, terrifying, and totally out of my control.

A pair of hands landed on my hips, and when they squeezed, I frowned. The scent of an unfamiliar cologne breezed through the air, and suddenly, the touch felt off. I knew how big Preston’s hands were. The way they molded to my shape so perfectly. How they made my skin pebble with a single brush. My stomach dropped as I spun around, taking an unbalanced step back that had me bumping into the counter.

Panic spread through my limbs as I met the arrogant smirk of Jagger Ross. He lifted a brow, his eyes filled with curiosity.

“What’s wrong, Trinity?” He mused.

I cleared my throat. “Sorry…”

“You expecting someone else?” he asked.

Shit. Shit. Shit.
