With a sudden intensity that took her breath away, Erzo’s hand cradled the back of her head, pulling her into a kiss that was nothing short of cosmic. Initially frozen in surprise, Polly quickly melted into the embrace. His kiss was a universe unto itself—deep, passionate, and soul-stirring. It resonated through her entire being, a connection that felt predestined.
Holding onto him, she let herself fall into the kiss, taking it for everything—because it felt like everything. It was as if they were two celestial bodies orbiting in perfect sync, drawn together by a force greater than gravity. His passion was palpable, breaking through the stereotype of his pragmatic species. It was a tidal wave of emotion that enveloped Polly, sweeping her up in its current. His hand caressed her back tenderly, pulling her even closer, their bodies pressed tightly together.
Even his tail joined in, tracing a delicate path along the back of her shin, heightening the intensity of their connection. The sensation was both alien and exhilarating, adding an additional dimension to their embrace. Some part in the back of her brain was wondering if she should be freaking because of the tail, but she wasn’t. If anything, it just added to it as it slid up to the back of her knee. But then, just as the kiss reached its zenith, something shifted. Erzo’s tail, caught up in the moment, accidentally knocked over nearby objects, the crash breaking the spellbinding kiss.
They parted, breathless and dazed. Erzo’s grip loosened, but not enough to fully release her, and Polly found herself unwilling to let go either. A mere sliver of space separated them now.
The look in Erzo’s eyes was searing, full of a raw desire that Polly had never seen before. It scorched her to the core, lighting a fire within her that she hadn’t known was possible.
Still enveloped in the afterglow of their kiss, Polly and Erzo’s eyes slowly shifted to the sound of the crash and surveyed the chaos his tail had unleashed. It brought them back to reality with a jolt. A piece of abstract art was now lying in defeat on the floor. A once Zen-like sand garden, which had been a picture of perfection on the table, now lay completely upended on the floor. Sand scattered everywhere, creating a miniature desert landscape across the tabletop. The tiny rake that was meant to make neat, calming patterns lay tossed aside, half-buried in the dunes. Polly's drinking glass ended up shattered into a million sparkling pieces across the floor.
Polly stared at the chaos, her mouth agape. “Wow, if that’s the aftermath of a kiss, I’m almost afraid to think what full-blown... uh, other activities might entail.”
Erzo, looking slightly abashed yet unable to suppress a grin, surveyed the damage. “Well, it seems my tail got a bit carried away.”
Polly burst into laughter. “Carried away? That’s one way to put it! It’s like your tail just threw a cosmic tantrum!”
Erzo joined in her laughter, the sound rich and warm. “I assure you, this is not standard procedure for a Charro kiss. Although I must admit, the intensity was quite unprecedented.”
“So, what you’re saying is that I should invest in some break-proof decor? Just in case we decide to, you know, explore further?”
He chuckled, the sound sending another thrill through her. “Perhaps that would be wise. But for now, let’s focus on surviving dinner with no more interstellar incidents.”
Polly nodded, still giggling. “Dinner it is. But maybe we should do a quick clean-up here? I don’t want your tail to get a reputation as a troublemaker.”
As they set about tidying up the mess, Polly couldn’t help but wonder what kind of damage they would do if this went further. Erzo really needed to keep his tail in check at dinner. If a simple kiss could cause this much chaos, who knows what dinner might bring?

At dinner that night, Erzo’s revelation about his origins cast an intriguing spell over the table.
“I am Charro, from the world of Charrovik.” Erzo glanced at Polly, and for a fleeting moment, she felt that same intense gaze electrify her, sending shivers all the way down to her toes. Then, just as quickly, he shifted his attention to the others, the magnetic pull of his eyes dissipating as he resumed his usual demeanor. “It’s a few systems away, but close enough for a trip.”
Throughout the evening, Erzo had been sending these prolonged, smoldering looks her way, each one rumbling through her, stirring something deep inside.
Polly, trying to shake off the electric feeling, chimed in, “Should we visit Charrovik? I mean, since I’m here, exploring new worlds sounds incredible.”
“Eventually,” Erzo replied with a knowing smile that reignited that thrilling charge in the air between them.
She returned his smile, keeping her composure. ‘Whoa, slow down,’ she mentally cautioned herself. Was she really hinting at meeting his family after just one kiss?
“We’ll see,” Erzo responded, his voice smooth and noncommittal.
Then she felt it again—that sly caress along her shin. Glancing under the table, she noted Erzo’s hands were firmly in view. It was his tail, stealthily playing along her leg in slow, deliberate strokes.
Polly caught his eye, his expression an unreadable mask, but those twinkling eyes gave him away. He was fully aware of what he was doing.
She shifted her leg slightly, a silent challenge. Unfazed, Erzo merely adjusted his tail, continuing the clandestine movements.
“I’ve never been to Charrovik,” Addy interjected, unknowingly cutting through the charged atmosphere between Polly and Erzo. “Is it a typical humanoid world?”
Addy and her spouse, Solkan, had joined them for dinner, thankfully breaking the intense focus between her and Erzo. Polly couldn’t help but think that if it were just the two of them, who knows what kind of interstellar escapades Erzo might have initiated.
But was she really complaining? Deep down, she knew the answer. She was more than just ‘liking’ Erzo. Something was growing between them, something that stretched across the galaxies of their differences.
Polly’s eyes kept darting around the restaurant, unable to focus on Solkan and Addy, who were honestly quite fun to hang out with. It was like she had this weird feeling that eyes were on her. Maybe they were, maybe not. No one was staring outright, even so, that feeling lingered like a weird buzz in the air.
Shifting in her seat, she scooted closer to Erzo. ‘He’s got my back,’ she thought suddenly, and then paused. Did she really know that? Logically, no, she didn’t. But then she caught a glimpse of him, and something inside her just clicked—yeah, he would look out for her. Why she felt so sure, she couldn’t pin down.
