They continued their meal, the silence comfortable yet filled with unspoken words. Every so often, Polly would steal glances at him, each look sending a ripple of something indefinable through Erzo. He found himself in uncharted territory, and for once, the journey felt not just necessary but enticing.

Polly leaned forward. "So, Erzo, tell me about yourself. What do you do for fun?"

"Drink," he replied simply.

Her expression shifted, her lips curving in distaste. "Is that all?"

"On a mining ship, after a tough day, that's about it. We drink and swap tales of our exploits."

She prodded further. "Share one of those stories with me."

He paused, searching for a story. "Honestly, nothing noteworthy comes to mind."

"Then how about your culture? Your people?" She motioned to his tail. "Is that typical of your species?"

Erzo nodded, understanding her need for context. "You're far from the Galactic Alliance's reach, right? I guess our ways must seem alien."

Her eyebrow arched. "There's a governing body for the galaxy?"

"Did you think we were all independent planets?" He was genuinely curious.

"We have stories, fictional tales about space travels and galactic empires," Polly explained.

"So, your knowledge of space comes from these stories?"

"Seems so."

He couldn't help but smile. "That's quite cute."

Her reaction was swift. "I'm not cute. That's for kids and pets. I'm an adult."

"No offense intended," Erzo quickly reassured her. "It's just fascinating how your people yearn for space exploration. How far has your world ventured?"

"We've landed on our moon and are planning a mission to the nearest planet."

"Then your civilization is just beginning its space journey."

"It appears so."

Erzo nodded. "Civilizations advance at their own pace. If your planet were near a warp tunnel, maybe your people would be more involved in space exploration."

She tilted her head. "What exactly is a warp tunnel?"

Erzo leaned back, his tail curling thoughtfully. "It's a gateway, a shortcut through space. It allows ships to travel vast distances in a fraction of the time."

Polly listened intently, her eyes reflecting the stars outside. "That's incredible. It's like something out of our books."

"Sometimes reality and fiction aren't so different," Erzo mused, his gaze lingering on her, appreciating her eagerness to learn about his world, even as he found himself intrigued by the stories of hers.

Polly's eyes widened. "Did your people construct these warp tunnels?"

Erzo shook his head. "No, they're ancient, predating even the earliest spacefaring civilizations. The Galactic Alliance, our governing body, didn't build them either."

Her brow furrowed. "So, the Galactic Alliance is like a military power?"

He laughed softly. "No, they're far from a military force. Their role is more about uniting diverse cultures. They stay out of conflicts and internal affairs, for the most part."

Polly looked puzzled. "Then what do they do?"
