She smiled. "Yes, mommy.”
"You must look pretty for the suitors," Adryel said with a funny accent, mimicking one of the robotic tutors they had
They both started to giggle.
"Like you have a chance," a girl said, gliding by.
They turned to the speaker.
It was Roemary. She was, by far, the most arrogant and determined female on the ship. She made it clear from day one that she would find her mate, and no one had better get in her way.
Sereya was with her. Where Roemary was light-skinned and light-haired, Sereya was dark-haired and dark-skinned. Regardless, both looked perfect. Others were just as particular as these two were, but no one carried it off as visually as they did.
Roemary expected the aliens to be lining up for her. She seemed the type who always got what she wanted.
Sereya, Janae had thought upon first meeting that she was the exception to the 'beautiful people' rule and that she would be kind to anyone. At least, until Roemary befriended her, then Sereya's whole personality shifted.
Or maybe, it just revealed her true nature.
That was Adryel's theory.
Roemary, however.
Adryel couldn't stand her.
"Don't be an ass," Adryel snapped at her. "Every one of us has a chance."
"Sure. In theory," Roemary said and stalked off, her glossy perfected hair shining in the light. She turned to Sereya and smirked. "They're so cute, thinking they will find someone.”
"You never know with aliens, Roemary," Sereya said, glancing at them, then turning back to Roemary as she stalked off. "They may have some weird---" The words faded away as they walked away.
Adryel muttered something akin to a curse at them as they glided away.
Janae couldn't help staring, not because she cared, though. Or that they'd hurt her feelings. She knew who she was and why she was there.
There was always that one nagging question that always bugged her about the beautiful people.
"What do they do to make their hair shine like that?" Janae asked. It was like art or something.
"It's the tears of the people they've insulted," Adryel said.
Janae smirked.
"Are you girls ready?" Graecey said as she came up to them from the other direction, her warm smile spreading out over her face.
"Think so," Janae replied.
"It's a battle," Adryel said, her gaze going back to the two who walked away.
"Knowing what aliens choose to like, well, that is a hard thing to predict. Especially in this situation."
"Why do you say that?" Adryel asked.
"This is our first time bringing females to the Kantenans."
Janae's eyes widened in shock. "I thought this was standard procedure."
"This experiment is. But a planet must apply and be accepted into the program. We've brought females to many different worlds for this, but each world had to apply and meet certain criteria."
