Veta shook her head. “I don’t know what he’s got planned.”
“There must be a way. He cannot wipe us out.”
“He would have done it already,” Veta said. “He has been developing weapons that will take out a whole planet. Or so the rumors say.”
Wrathin’s eyes widened. “What are these weapons?”
“No clue,” Veta said. “I just know that he’s been funneling a lot of resources into private projects for a while. They could be a front for a larger project. Which would be how he would do it,” she muttered the last part, because that’s what she knew of the Emperor. Small distractions to avoid attention.
“Do you have an idea of his timeline?”
Veta shook her head. “I’m willing to bet it’s pretty soon if he’s going to all this trouble to kill me.”
“Do you have some sort of power in your government?” Wrathin asked.
She put her hand on her hip. “I got dirt on every one of those people. It was my job to get all their secrets.”
Wrathin nodded. “Perhaps they wished to silence you. Your ambassador ship was destroyed, and every escape pod that was launched from your ship was attacked. I would guess someone on that ship knew the plans.”
“Then let’s hope we’re all alive.”
“We need to get back to the homeworld.”
“No. We need to find the others.” Veta glanced around the village. “So, where are the ships?”
“Right this way.”
