Again, nothing.

He honestly did not expect a response, but he felt he must try. He’d spent many years on this moon, he knew how the eclipses affected the planet’s communication. He sent a data code, including his location and tracking data, with a situation update. As soon as communications were restored, the others in his squad would get his information.

Until he got to the nearest settlement, he and the Terran woman were on their own.

He glanced over his shoulder.

Veta.

She was interesting.

Speaking with her before amused him.

He did not know why he brought up mates with her. He knew some about Terran life, and he thought many of them had mates of some sort.

Yet why did learning she did not please him? He did not know what it was, but it started when they had been lower, and the Terrans had attacked.

Seeing her fight—defending herself against the others, it was brutal. Stunning.

Almost sexual. To him, anyway.

It sent a sensation through him that he was not used to.

Were all Terran females so strong? Did they all fight so passionately? He’d fought in the war and had fought Terran males many times. He’d never fought a female.

Once, a Terran that was captured had said the Terran Emperor refused to let the women fight. Protecting their species, or something. Yet here was one who was ready to fight and take down any attackers.

The Terrans were a conundrum of inconsistencies.

He stretched his arms over his head, his gaze running along the cave walls, and up to the high ceilings. The luminescent stones painted everything in a blue glow.

He wanted to get out of the suit, let his skin breathe for a bit.

“Suit, rest mode,” he said, and almost instantly, the lysteel suit receded. It retracted into the imbedded ports around his body to wait until it was needed again, leaving most of his legs and upper body covered. While it was cooler in the cave than it was outside, it was still warm. The suit kept him temperate, but he had always enjoyed the feel of fresh air on his skin.

His skin revealed the natural warm brown briefly until it adapted to the colors of the cave walls.

Maybe here, he would reach the meditation he sought.
