She scooted closer. Or perhaps he pulled her in. He was not sure exactly who moved first, other than they got closer, her body pressed against his. Her curves mashed against his chest, and it felt both calming and stimulating.

The combination made no sense to him, for certain.

But it felt like the right thing to do.

It felt like the best thing.

Felt…

His humanoid instincts guided him, not his programming.

As he glanced down at her, seeing her face marred with worry and fear, he touched her chin.

"Fear not. I will protect you."

She met his gaze. "Until the mission is over."

"Until I know you are safe."

She smiled for a second. "That may be longer than expected."

“It does not matter.” He leaned toward her, their foreheads brushing. "I will keep you safe."

“Thank you,” she whispered.

His feelings took over. He leaned closer, and his lips brushed hers.

She gasped. Then she wrapped her arms around him.

This was not the first time Kian had kissed a female. It was a common practice when choosing to release the Cravings.

None, however, had ever felt like this…

Heat radiated through him. Stronger than just the Cravings. Instinctually, he knew it was the Craving. But not the same.

Not like anything he had ever processed. She brought out sensations that he could not name.

Needs surged through him, his body reacting to the feel of her beautiful curves against him. Intense and incredible and overwhelming, yet also cravable. Hewantedthis. Desperately.

It felt…

He felt—

Ka-boom!

They both flew through the air, away from the blast. Kian landing on his back, and Freya sprawled over him.

“What in the world?” she asked as she climbed off him to her knees.

“An attack,” Kian said as he got up. He helped Freya rise as well.

They turned toward the sound.

The entrance shed was gone. Fire poured down into the chamber.

Freya coughed.

“Come, we need to get out of here.”
