“Oh, I haven’t tried them yet.”

“They’re great. We should—”

Smash

A brick flew through the front window.

Followed in rapid succession by two more.

Shaun didn’t hesitate. He took off.

Three men in hoodies and black pants bolted.

They’d shattered the one window, and Shaun didn’t wait for Winter to unlock the door, he just went through the broken window.

Tackled one.

Dove for the second one, but he took off.

Then, from the electronics shop, Mr. McDonell came out, stick in hand, and tripped the man.

Then the flashing lights came.

Time both sped up and slowed down all around him. Police appeared everywhere, apprehending the suspects.

One of them was Louie and his K9 dog, Axel.

“Louie, there’s a third one, he went that way.” Shaun pointed in the general direction the guy had run.

Louie released Axel. “Get him, boy!”

And off Louie went with Axel leading the way.

One of the other officers pulled back the hood on the boy Shaun had caught.

Winter came out the door, staring. “Rico? Rico García?”

The boy—a high school kid, probably no older than fifteen—snarled at Winter. “You horrible, horrible bitch! How dare you disrespect my sister!”

She shook her head. “You did this?”

The other boy who’d been caught by Mr. McDonell was young too, probably about the same age.

And in a few moments, Louie and Axel came back with a third boy, who was probably no older than eighteen.

Winter shook her head. “You have got to be kidding me.” She fanned her face. “This is so damn bizarre.”

“You know these boys?” Louie asked.

Winter gestured to Rico. “That’s one of my former employees, Sacha García’s younger brother.”

“Do you have her number?” the officer asked.

Winter nodded. “Fairly certain I do. Let me go inside and get it.”

Shaun stood there, shaking his head as the officers put the angry young boys into police cars.

“I’ll be damned,” he muttered, standing next to Louie.
