And my space.

I like my space.

I like being alone.

Mundane be damned.

Alone was better.

I walked into the kitchen to put the bottles of wine in the fridge to chill and smiled.

Inside sat a take-out box from Juan’s, a local Mexican restaurant the kids know I love. Tonight, take-out was perfect. I pulled it out and got it started re-heating, and proceeded to get out of my heels and work clothing.

No Pilates tonight. I always take Saturday nights off from working out. Salon days were always far too exhausting, and I needed to relax every once in a while.

I slipped into my favorite pajama pants and slippers and headed back to the kitchen.

My dinner beeped in the microwave, ready to be eaten.

As I pulled out the food, I thought about how damn boring I was.

And I was kind of depressed about that. Because what was I going to do tonight? Stream some show that sounded interesting and curl up on the couch.

That was the plan as long as the internet connection holds up. My old house had an old cable line, and occasionally when the weather was bad, it got dodgy.

What I wasn’t going to do was think about Shaun, the exterminator, wanting to have dinner with me.

I shoved a bite of rice into my mouth, chewing on it while my errant thoughts darted around the whole day, especially the parts that involved the exterminator.

See how well my mind behaves?

The damn exterminator had been on my mind all day long, and for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out why.

It’s not like I thought he was cute or anything. Longish hair that needed a shape-up. Gruffy. Thick, working man’s build.

Sparkling eyes that always seemed to be laughing…

Even when he was trying to blackmail me with a rat.

An opossum.

Whatever.

“What the fuck was that about, anyway?” I muttered to myself. Because, really, who does that? Does he have that hard of a time getting a date that he has to blackmail women into them with him?

Doesn’t exactly endear him to me.

My cell phone dinged.

It was Brittany.

We made it.– Brittany

I noddedand texted her back to have a good night and stay safe down there in Florida in between bites of my dinner.

Thanks,Mom. Love you. Dad says hi. – Brittany

I had to text back.
