Iran my hands through my dark hair because I was very close to screaming.

This is it.

I’m in Hell.

It’s official.

I have a rat in my back room.

My kids are leaving.

And State Board is here.

“I’m officially in Hell,” I muttered.

“I am not that bad, I didn’t think,” Shaun said. “Most people like my company.”

I glared at him because right now I didn’t like his, or anyone else’s company. “Get that thing out of here.” I took a backward step, holding out the broom. Because that little damn creepy-crawly thing isn’t getting close to me again. “State board is here!” My head started to pound.

God only knew what Autumn was saying to the state board inspector, and if that inspector is in a bad mood…

Ugh.

Autumn would find a way to say the wrong thing and get us written up for some violation.

I rubbed my temples for a second, pressing on those pressure points that Mom told me about.

They never work.

But it keeps me from putting my hands around someone’s throat.

Shaun’s voice jarred me out of my thoughts.

He raised his eyebrow, and he seemed way too relaxed about this. “Who is here that’s got you all worked up? Inspectors?”

I let out a sigh, trying to sort myself out.

Shit had to get done.

I had already spewed my curses.

Now time to deal with shit.

That was how this worked.

Deep breath.

Then I met Shaun’s gaze.

“Yes. They show up any time in the calendar year. And of course, they show up today. Because, well, evidently I angered someone powerful in my last life.” My gaze followed the little critter, huddled under the corner where the two cabinets came together. The place where there was a slight crack between the cabinets.
