Laylee made a big show of surprise. “You floozy!” In a loud, mockingly scandalized stage whisper, she asked Ford, “Is she spending the night with you?”

On her way down the hall, she heard Ford say, “God, I hope so. Driveways might be good enough for you, but when it comes to your sister, I need a lot more space—and a lot more time.”

As her sister’s hilarity filled the air, peace settled around Skye.

A night with her hot neighbor.

A night with Ford.

She could barely wait.

Chapter 5

Staring at the ceiling, his chest still rising and falling as Skye lay soft and warm against him, Ford knew that he’d just had the best sex of his life. Nothing else would compare. No other woman, no other experience.

He’d hit a peak, and unless he could seal the deal with her, it’d all be downhill from this.

He tucked in his chin to see her face, and yeah, that was a happy smile curving her delectable mouth. Unable to resist, he pressed a kiss to her forehead. “You just ruined me.”

Warm breath teased his damp skin with her throaty laugh. “Ruined you how?”

“For anyone else.”

Going still, and then scowling, she jerked up to show him her displeasure. “Seriously, Ford? You’re already thinking of other women?”

She was so pretty with her flushed skin and mussed hair that her disgruntlement entertained him. “Yeah.” He brushed back her hair. “How other women have lost all appeal.”

“Oh.” The frown lifted and another smile crept in. “In that case, you’re forgiven.”

Curious, he asked, “What were you thinking?”

“That it was the best decision I ever made when I interrupted your party.”

“It wasn’t a party,” he denied. “But we do get together often. You’ll be okay with that?”

“Depends on whether I’m invited to take part.”

Funny how life could change so quickly. “You’re invited, always, from now until the end of time.”

Yeah, that sounded serious enough to get her attention. Thoughtfully, she dragged the sheet around herself and sat up.

He immediately tugged it away. “I sense a heavy discussion about to happen, and I’d prefer to take part without this stellar view hidden.”

Her chin hitched up. “If you expect me to be shy, you’ll be disappointed.”

For an answer, he wadded up the sheet and tossed it off the bed. Scooting up to sit against the headboard, he crossed his ankles and said, “Go.”

After a startled laugh, she mimicked his pose. “I’m not the type to date multiple partners. If I’m seeing you, it’ll only be you.”

“Totally works for me.” Especially since, as he’d said, there was no one who would compare to her. Before this, he hadn’t known how territorial he could be. He wanted only her, and he wanted her to feel the same about him. “Consider us monogamous. That’s a big step for me, so if you want to show some appreciation, I wouldn’t mind.”

“Thank you. It’s a big step for me as well.”

True, but for far different reasons. He’d dated extensively; she’d hardly dated at all. Sounding as solemn as she had, he repeated her words. “Thank you.”

She chewed her bottom lip, her expression troubled. “Since we’ll be sharing responsibility for the dogs, I think if you’re going to be out late, I’d like to know why.”

“Work only keeps me late for parties with clients, and since they always include a plus-one, I’d love for you to go with me whenever you can. Otherwise, now that I’ll be a dog owner”—and he’d have Skye Fairchild waiting—“I’ll plan to be home no later than six. How about you?”
