I watched Sable while she watched the game.

At some point, she pulled out a pale pink beanie and put it on over her hair. She looked even more adorable like that. The perfect combination of feminine vulnerability and strength.

Of course, I wasn't the only one who noticed. Leif was watching too, a predatory look in his eyes. A cautious one as well. Our conversation about black widows and Sable seemed to be still uppermost in his thoughts, as it was in mine.

Honestly, it was difficult to reconcile that profile with someone who wore a pink beanie with a pom-pom on the top. Was that a rabbit embroidered on the front?

Yes it was. A rabbit holding a lollipop.

I kept an eye on Woody too. He slouched in his chair, gaze toward the ice. I knew him better than to think hiswholeattention was on the game. He was listening to every word we said. Every word Sable said.

Every so often, his lip would twitch like he wanted to curl it, but he kept it contained. His brow would crease, a faint hint of a smile. He did a good job of appearing relaxed. Anyone else would have bought it.

We both knew he wasn't going to try to kill her. Not here in front of all these witnesses. Not with me and Leif here to stop him.

"I'm getting a drink," he said as the intermission after second period started.

The Rooks were up three goals to one, and so far, Garrett Ryan hadn't killed Mikko, or vice versa.

I had no idea what happened between those two, but every time they got anywhere near each other on the ice, the tension rose. Maybe they needed to fuck it out.

Whatever. That was their problem, not mine.

"Get me one while you're there," Leif called after him.

Woody raised a hand and waved over his shoulder. That could have meant anything from 'sure bro, I'll bring you something back,' to 'fuck off and get your own.' Who knew with Woody?

He stalked over to the bar at the side of the box and spoke to the server. He returned a couple of minutes later with four drinks balanced on a small, circular tray. He took a Coke for himself and handed the tray to Leif.

Sable glanced at Woody with surprise, before accepting the Diet Coke Leif handed to her. Since the bottle was sealed, we all knew Woody hadn't slipped anything in there.

She still waited until we opened ours before doing the same to her bottle and taking a sip.

"Thank you," she said to Woody, although she was clearly confused why he got her a drink as well.

Honestly, so was I.

Woody didn't do anything without a reason. What was it tonight? I didn't think he was trying to make amends with Sable. Chances were he was trying to make her comfortable, so she was off her guard. That's what I'd do. That might be what we wereall doing. Sitting here with her, enjoying a game of hockey, while still questioning her motives.

None of that changed the fact I wanted to fuck her.

"So, this is fun," Sable said, glancing around at all of us.

Woody snorted.

I gave him a look before turning my attention back to her. "I'm glad youcametonight."

Did she hear the innuendo in my voice? Judging by the slight widening of her eyes, she did. Of course she hadn't come, not yet, but I wanted her on the same wavelength as me. I wanted her to know exactly what I intended to do with her. If not tonight, then soon. Patience only went so far.

"Me too," she said, adorably awkward. "Thank you for asking me."

"Yes, thank you for asking her," Leif said. To her, he asked, "What are you doing after this?"

I narrowed my eyes at him. I was the one who brought her here. Was he really going to muscle in on my date? Yes, he was. Or at least, he'd try. The man was shameless. Usually I appreciated that, but tonight the proverbial jury was still out.

Sable glanced at me. "I don't know. I don't think we have any plans for afterward."

"I have a few ideas," I said. I wasn't done with her yet.Ihad plans.
