Our gazes remained locked together. She swallowed. “Yeah.”

“Let’s go,” I said as I turned off the car.

I was already at her side of the vehicle before she had the door open. Emerson unlatched her seatbelt, and I swept her up in my arms. She squealed as I carried her up the stairs.

“Knox, let me down.”

I opened the door. “Are you changing your mind?” I asked as I slid her down my body and put her feet on the floor in the cabin’s safety.

She shook her head. “No.”

“This,” I said, moving my index finger from me to her. “Isn’t just the job.”

Emerson bit her bottom lip, but it didn’t stop her smile from growing. “No. It isn’t.”

We stared at one another for a moment, the hope of the situation filling me. Emerson was the rest of my life. I didn’t care what it took; we were forever.

The moment stretched between us.

Then it snapped.

I moved first. One second we had an inch of space between us, the next none. My arms wrapped around Emerson, and I brought her close.

My lips found hers in the dark of the cabin, and I backed her up against the bed. We’d waited long enough. Our life together started right then.

“No more adventures,” I whispered when I pulled away for a breath.

She nodded as the backs of her legs hit the end of the bed. My thumb brushed over her skin at the base of her neck. The moon lit up the room around her, and I pushed the cat off the bed before laying her on it.

There was no pressure, but I hoped she could read in my eyes that after we did this, there would be no going back to the way things were.

We kissed again, careful at first, but Emerson’s presence filled the room until I couldn’t wait anymore.

This was it—my everything.

The bed dipped beneath us as I adjusted. Our sheets were already rumpled, and only moonlight lit up the cabin. My pulse refused to slow. We were already too far along, and my body knew what I wanted.

My hand rested on her waist before moving to her pants and undoing the buttons of her jeans. Emerson’s body molded to my touch; she moved as I needed, as if we were already a team.

Our tongues dueled in her mouth, and I loved how she’s battle for her place right beside me. It went right to my cock, making me rock hard.

“This first time, might be quick, but don’t worry, I wasn’t lying about the dawn part,” I said, rubbing my groin between her legs before inching away to remove her pants the rest of the way.

Emerson moaned as her hand fisted the sheets, pulling them from the edge of the bed.

“You okay?” I mumbled against her lips before biting gently.

She nodded, her hips giving a thrust up to find me. “Yeah. I just need more. All of you, Knox. Right now.”

Her words drew a chuckle from me. “Coming right up, babe.”

My stomach tightened with excitement as I took off my pants and tossed them on the floor beside hers. She watched with wide eyes. Her skin pebbled as I ran my fingertips over the skin of her hips before grabbing her underwear and lowering them, exposing her to me.

“Take off your shirt,” I grumbled. “I can’t look away from this.”

Emerson squirmed as she hurried to listen. “Now you.”

She didn’t need to ask twice. I ripped my shirt over my shoulders and threw it behind me. My thumb traced slow circlesaround her belly button before lowering to run the row above her pubic bone.
