He adjusted his aim until Ezra lit up like a rainbow of ecstasy, hitting his prostate. Ezra cried out and clung to Raum, and Raum increased his pace, making sure to hit Ezra’s pleasure spot over and over, making him tremble and sob.

Ezra was tight and hot, utterly perfect, and Raum held onto his control by the thinnest of margins, determined to make Ezra fly apart before following him in release.

It didn’t take long—Ezra came with a scream, spine bowed, head thrown back, and cum splattered across their bellies. He clenched tightly on Raum’s cock, making him thrust harder, deeper, chasing his own orgasm, and he found it a few thrusts later, burying himself as deep as possible inside Ezra’s hot body. He came hard, groaning, and he gathered Ezra to him and held on tight. Ezra was shivering and gasping, his aura flooded by pleasure and release, and Raum let himself sink into Ezra, enjoying the connection.

CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

EZRA

There was something he was missing, something he was forgetting, he knew it, and Ezra spun slowly on his heels, squinting at every surface in the room at Sacred Threshold, determined not to forget a damn thing as he packed.

He walked into the bathroom and did the same, making sure he looked everywhere, and even looked under the sink. He left the litter box as it wasn’t his—his portable litter box was emptied, cleaned, sterilized, and packed with Lilith’s gear.

He walked out of the bathroom, stood in the middle of the room, hands on his hips, and frowned. “I have no idea what I’m forgetting.”

Lilith meowed from the bed, tail flicking, as she watched him slowly lose his mind. He made sure to kneel on the floor and look under the bed, and found nothing except a random dust bunny. He sat back on his heels and sighed. “I think I’m finally going insane, Lilith. I feel like I’m forgetting something, and I’m gonna remember it when I’m thousands of miles away in San Fran and it’ll be too late.”

“You forget anything, I’ll mail it to you,” Chase said from the doorway, making Ezra jolt.

“Shit,” Ezra ran a hand over his chest, trying to calm himself. “Warn a guy next time.”

“Did you forget we’re out in the hallway?” Chase asked with a wide grin, chuckling. “Want me to check the room for you?”

Ezra thought about refusing but then he shrugged. It was going to drive him insane, this feeling, and he appreciated Chase asking. “Yes, please.”

Ezra got off the floor and scooped Lilith into his arms, heading for the hallway as Chase passed him. Harlan was in the hallway with all of Ezra’s stuff, talking to Raum.

“Our cats are spoiled. They get gourmet food every night, have their own couches in this little niche under the stairs, their own TV, and robot litter boxes. Chase spends a mint on them every month.”

“Chase is a smart guy,” Ezra said with a grin. “I knew I liked him for a reason.”

Harlan chuckled and reached out to pet Lilith in Ezra’s arms. “The cats do appreciate the efforts we make.”

“Especially when they puke on the carpet at 2am.” Ezra said with a wry grin, and Lilith grumbled at him.

Raum had Lilith’s carrier over his shoulder, and Ezra’s bags were piled along the hallway wall. Raum looked past Ezra into the room as Chase finally reappeared in the doorway.

“Room is clear, I promise,” Chase declared. “Nothing left behind.”

“Then it’s just me being weird,” Ezra sighed. “Thanks for checking for me.”

“You’re welcome.” Chase smiled at him. “Are you ready to go?”

“I guess so.” He stopped and turned to the cat carrier, digging in the side pocket. He pulled out the rumpled sketch drawn by Monica Blevins’ boyfriend, Brendan, right before he died. He handed it to Chase. “Can you get that to Monica, please?”

Chase took it and gently folded the drawing, tucking it inside his jacket pocket. “I will. Let’s get going.”

His flight home was going to be a long one, and he wasn’t looking forward to flying commercially, spoiled already by the underhill. Chase and Harlan were meant to give him a ride to the airport, but he changed his flights and gave himself a few extra days in Edmonton, and instead they were heading to Raum’s apartment.

His contract with MERS was concluded—he had a nice hefty payment in his account, plus expenses covered while he was in Canada, and his medical expenses were covered as well. Major Grendel got a final debrief from him the day before, and he calmly signed the paperwork despite leaving out half of the event with Morana. No way was he putting a divine blessing into government records. He didn’t want the attention or the questions.

He turned in the government phone as well, but not before getting Harlan and Chase to put their personal numbers into his own phone. He was going to be spending quite a lot of time in Edmonton in the future, and he was happy to call the two sergeants friends. He didn’t have many of those, and both men were more than willing to be in contact with him. Chase had already sent him pictures of his two furbabies, and Harlan liked to send him memes.

Raum took Ezra’s free hand, and the sergeants grabbed Ezra’s bags. As a group they walked down the hall and into the sitting area with the relief of Hecate over the cold hearth. Ezra paused a step, Raum beside him, and the sergeants moved on without noticing.

Ezra bowed his head to Hecate for a brief second, and the carved eyes flashed hellfire green, so fast that if Ezra hadn’t been staring right at it, he would have missed it. He said nothingabout it, and he and Raum followed behind the sergeants out of Sacred Threshold.

They walked outside to the SUV at the curb out front and loaded up his gear into the rear of the vehicle, shutting the hatch. Ezra, Lilith, and Raum got in the back seat with the sergeants in the front, and Ezra leaned into Raum’s side, content in a way he never had been before. Raum leaned down and Ezra turned into the kiss, and the feeling of forgetting something vanished immediately.
