I slipped into a slumber, really hoping she found my gun.

“Drake,” I greeted him in Matteo’s office, taking in his messy hair and scowl on his face. “Are you well?”
“No,” he grumbled, slamming back a shot of whiskey.
“A little early to be chasing sleep.”
“Not when you find Matteo coming out of your girl’s room with his shirt off.” He poured another drink and drank.
I frowned at this information. Matteo had been struggling lately with his feelings. The fact that he’d gone to Bianca frightened me. I very much doubted he’d put his gun away, so she’d been within arm’s reach of it all night.
This was dangerous.
Klaus came into the room, dressed in his typical dark suit and tie, his blond hair perfect.
“Klaus,” I said in German. “Matteo stayed with Bianca last night.”
“Did she kill him?” Klaus replied in German, his brows knitted.
“He lives.”
“I am surprised.” Klaus moved past me and sat on a stool next to Drake. He switched over to English. “Why are you upset, quackers?”
“Man, fuck you,” Drake muttered. “Dick.”
Klaus chuckled.
“You know why I’m pissed,” Drake continued. “When Matteo gets in here?—”
“I would advise that you not speak with Matteo about it,” I warned. “It would not end well.”
Drake shook his head, irritation all over his face.
Matteo came into his office moments later, looking like hell.
“Good morning,” I greeted him.
He grunted, walked past us, and took a seat behind his desk.
“Coffee?” I offered, sliding a cup in front of him.
He sipped it, his eyes closed. When he opened them, I didn’t expect him to address Drake.
“Nothing happened last night. With Bianca. I fell asleep in her room. She is well. The babies are well.”
Drake looked away sourly but managed a soft grunt.
“I would like for you to take her phone so she can call Dominic today. I promised her she could.”
“What?” Drake asked, seemingly as surprised as both Klaus and I were, because we shot each other a quick look. This was highly unlike Matteo.
“Yes. Take it to her now. Spend the day with her. She deserves a little happiness.”
Drake moved off his stool quickly as Matteo handed him Bianca’s phone.
