I don’t thinkI’ve ever been so nervous in my life. When I asked Bex if she wanted me to pick her up, she said she had to drop her dad off at the airport before coming over.
I think she wanted to squeeze in a little more time with him. He’s been nothing but supportive of the two of us. After that big game, a lot of opinions have changed. Even though I don’t care about any of them. The only ones that matter are ours, and those of our families and close friends, and they’ve been nothing but supportive.
Except as I wait for her now, I’m scared shitless to have her meet my family. Officially. I know she’s met Angie in passing at games, but that’s it.
“When is Bex going to get here? Can I call her Bex?” Troy asks, dropping down onto the sectional next to me.
“You can call her Bex.” I laugh.
Of course he’s already met her. But does he know Bex as my girlfriend? No. I should probably be more worried about any discomfort he might have, but I don’t. Because I love her.
This is the first chance we’ve all had to get together since the news broke of us dating. I wanted her to meet them sooner, but with our schedules, it’s hard.
“Can I tell you it might be weird having her around at first?” Troy asks, looking sheepish.
“It’s okay. I felt weird being with her at first too.”
Not that it took long to get over it. Bex is the one person in the world I can truly be myself with. It’s like the two of us were just drifting along, waiting for one another.
It doesn’t matter how far apart we are in age. It doesn’t matter if no one but us understands what we have. This thing between us is real. The kind of love I see every day in the people around me.
I’m thankful that I was lucky enough to find it with Bexley.
“Can I say I’m glad you found someone?” Troy tells me. “Because sometimes I would think you’re lonely and needed someone to love you and that big heart of yours.”
“I promise, I’m not. I love Bex, and she’s the perfect woman for me.”
