It’s a gentle kiss, a promise of things to come.
Because Nick and I have the entire weekend together.
“Is it bad I’m glad you didn’t go to the All-Star game?” I whisper against his lips.
“No. Because I’m glad too.”
“Yeah?” I look up at him. A light snow has started to fall.
He nods, brushing his nose alongside mine. “I want to be here with you. My body needs the break.”
“I hope not too much of a break.”
A sly smile spreads across his full lips. “Not that much of a break, Bex.”
“You have such a dirty mind.” I laugh, reaching over to the railing to grab a fistful of snow and throw it at Nick.
“That was evil!” Nick shouts, trying to shake the snow out of his jacket.
I dodge out of his hold and bolt down the stairs. The snow is thick and makes it hard to trek through.
“Oh no, you don’t!” Nick grabs me easily and falls into a nearby snowbank. Snow seeps through my coat, making it that much colder. “Think you can get away with that?”
“No!” I try to pull away from him, but Nick’s grip is tight. His bare hand is like ice as it slips under my coat. “Too cold! Too cold!”
“You should have thought about that before throwing snow down my coat.”
Nick rolls me on top of him out of the snow.
“I might be rethinking all of my plans with you this weekend,” I say as a shiver racks my body.
“Not even if I promise to warm you up?”
“Maybe a hot shower?” I drag my nose along his cold one. “Something to warm us both up?”
“Bex, I plan on doing whatever you want this weekend.”
“How did I get so lucky?” I whisper against his lips.
“You mean to find the most awkward guy on the planet and turn him into something not awkward?”
I shake my head. “You just needed the right person to appreciate everything you are.”
“And do you appreciate me, Bex?”
“More than you will ever know.”
More than I can put into words, because the feelings I’m feeling for this man are getting big. Big and scary and too hard to ignore anymore.
I just need to get my head and my heart on the same page. Because Nick is worth it.
He’s worth everything to me.
Chapter Twenty-One
NICK
“Are you sure it’s safe that we’re out here?” I ask Bex on the short walk down to the pond behind the cabin.
