Jumping away from her, I spin on my skates and head toward the locker room, trying to shake off the Bexley-induced stupor.

“Nice talking to you, Nick,” she calls out after me.

“You too, Ms. Hart.”

“What’d I tell you?” Bexley asks.

“To call you Bexley.”

“That’s right, Nick.”

“Okay, Bexley. I’ll see you around.”

I watch her go as she starts chatting with Coach.

What an idiot, I chastise myself.

It’s not that I have a crush on Bexley. I mean, in what world could the two of us ever be together? Forget the fact that she’s the general manager; she’s more than a decade older than me.

I need to get rid of these feelings and buckle down on hockey. It’s still early in the season. We have a cup to defend. Bexley Hart?

Forget about it.

“What are you staring at, Nicky?” Cash wraps an arm around my shoulders and pulls me toward the locker room with him.

“Nothing.”

The crap I would get from him if he knew I had a crush? I would never hear the end of it. This is why I keep my mouth shut in the locker room. I hear the chirping that goes on.

Keeping my head down is the easiest way to do that. Even if the fans come after me for any loss. Staying out of the limelight makes it easier.

Sure, I’m a team player, but I still keep to myself.

Cash’s eyes follow where mine are tracking. He’s smarter than I give him credit for. “Like the older woman, huh?”

I shake my head, pushing him off of me. “Nah. Just trying to figure out how much of a break I can get before hitting the weights.”

“Coach Barney will make tomorrow hell for all of us if you’re late,” Cash tells me.

Thank God he bought that. Because I don’t want to give away what I’m thinking or feeling toward the person I was really looking at.

Bexley.

Not that I have any feelings toward her. None whatsoever.

Hockey needs to be my only focus.

Not a GM that turns me into a rambling idiot.

Hockey. Only hockey.

Chapter Three

NICK

Iswig my water as I skate off the ice to booming cheers from the crowd. Fuck, this feels good. Shutouts, while not uncommon in the league, haven’t happened against Dallas this season.

To be the first one to stop them from putting points on the board? Yeah, it feels fucking great.
