Fucking great.
That should hopefully shut up every naysayer out there. The comments about what Nick and I have are still there. But they aren’t as loud as they were earlier in the season.
And now? Now they don’t bother me.
What Nick and I have is real. We know what we mean to one another, everyone else be damned.
Speaking of…
Nick skates over to me, cup hoisted over his head, with the most beautiful, heart-stopping smile on his face.
“Got room to spare a kiss for me?”
His entire face is glistening under the championship hat he’s wearing.
Holding onto his pads, I press up onto my toes to meet him for a kiss. The sweetest, best kiss of my life. Because despite all the odds, the two of us are here, having weathered the storm.
We could’ve caved and done what everyone else wanted us to do, but we didn’t. There is no one else in this world that I would walk through hell and back for than this man in front of me.
As Nick goes to hand the cup off to another one of the guys, he skates back over to me, lifting me into his arms. “I don’t think anything will ever top this,” he tells me.
“What about another win next year?”
Nick looks around, a shocked look on his face. “Bex, don’t jinx us. We only just won.”
“Hey. I’m thinking big picture. Back-to-back? And that block to save the game from going to game six? Nick, that was incredible.”
The smile lights up his face. Taking off his hat, he drops it onto my head, spinning it backward. “I knew you’d like that.”
“Maybe I should give you a bonus for it.”
“Oh yeah?” Nick quirks a brow at me. “What kind of bonus? Are you allowed to do that?”
Leaning down, I press a kiss to his cheek, mindful of the eyes on us. “I’m thinking more of the kind that only you get.”
“Oh yeah?” I feel his fingertips dig into my sides. “Like what?”
“Like licking champagne off of me.”
“Fuck, Bex. You cannot tell me that while we’re still on the ice.”
I wiggle out of his arms and walk back toward where the rest of the team is now greeting friends and family. “Well then, better get these celebrations going.”
Nick
“It’s my turn!”Paddock shoves Cash out of the way and takes his turn drinking champagne out of the cup.
“Nicky! You’re up next!” Paddock shouts, wiping his lips.
Warmth buzzes through my veins. The Black Diamonds rented out the entire bar for our celebrations. It’s nearing one in the morning and not a single person has left.
Spotting Bex across the bar, I grin as she wiggles her brows at me as I step up to the cup and take a hearty sip of lukewarm champagne. “Shit. That’s terrible.”
“Probably the best damn thing you’ll ever drink though, right?” Troy asks, curling an arm around my shoulder.
“Fuck yeah!” I cheer, causing all the guys around me to explode in whoops and hollers.
It’s been like this all night. No one wants to leave.
