“Stay out of trouble,” I call to Randy, but he’s not paying attention, yelling at the TV. A few of the guys are coming into the house from a late class, and I wave at them before getting into my Jeep to get Angie.
I’m more nervous than I should be as I head to pick her up. I didn’t think we’d be here. After the other night, something changed between the two of us.
I felt it and I know she did too. Fuck, it was amazing.
Angela Brooks-Young has ruined me for every other woman, and that has come as a complete surprise to me. Inever went to her with the intention of starting something. I really did go to her needing help with my classes.
Campus is busy tonight. Students are coming and going from the faculty buildings as the quad starts to fill up with early evening classes letting out.
With my hockey schedule, most of my classes are in the morning, leaving me with all the time for early practice before class and our afternoon skates.
I take the shortcut through the center of campus to Angie’s place, and she’s there waiting for me on the front steps.
Fuck, is she ever gorgeous. She’s wearing a simple white dress, covered in what looks like red flowers, that’s pulled over her knees. A jean jacket covers her shoulders to ward off the chill in the late fall air.
I could sit here for hours and never get tired of looking at her. I’ve always known about Angie—it was hard not to when her family grew up hating ours. I never thought our paths would cross.
Yet, here I am. Staring at the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. Thankful that she took a chance on me.
Hopping out of my car, I cover the distance between the two of us, wanting her in my arms. Her gaze lands on me, lighting her entire face up in a smile.
“Hey.”
“Hi.” I drop a kiss on her cheek and take a deep breath of that sweet, vanilla scent of hers. Damn, does it ever do things to me.
“You look great.”
“You didn’t really give me much to go on.” She laughs.
“How does a rooftop movie sound tonight?”
“That sounds great.”
It’s not a far drive from campus. Being with Angie iseasy, talking the entire ride over. Parking in a garage nearby, I help Angie out and we walk over to the building.
“It’s not going to be some hockey movie, is it?” Angie leans in closer.
“I thought I convinced you to like hockey already.”
Angie looks up at me as we stop at the crosswalk, her brown eyes soft in the fading light. “I like watching you play. Jury is still out on everyone else.”
I tuck a stray lock behind her ear. “I guess I can live with that.”
“I really hope you level Kyle later this season.”
I bark out a laugh as the light changes and we head in the direction of the theater. “I plan on leveling the shit out of him.”
“I’ll enjoy watching it.”
“Look at you. You’re just like the rest of us loving the hits of the game.”
“Yeah yeah.”
We reach the doors and head inside. It’s a quick elevator ride up that spits us out into the lobby.
Heavy velvet lines the walls with gold sconces giving it ambient lighting. A well-stocked bar lines one wall with drinks and movie snacks.
I pay for the two tickets, a bucket of popcorn, and drinks. Night has settled as we walk out to the theater.
