“But you know that’s not a thing of all hockey players, right?”

Angie rolls her eyes. “Logically? Yes. But whatever love I had for the game, he took with him to Boston.”

“Is it bad that I hate him?”

“You totally can.” Angie laughs. “I hate him too.”

I know we play Boston this season. And even though he is a year older than I am, he was a redshirt, which means I’ll play against him. I want to lay that asshole out for what he did to Angie. I don’t know how anyone could ever cheat on this woman.

She’s letting me in. Little by little. Angie deserves way better than that guy. She will go out of her way to help anyone. Even me. It might’ve taken her awhile to get there, but she did.

“I’m surprised you’re even talking to me right now.”

“So you see why I hate hockey players now.”

“Correction, one hockey player. You like me, right?”

“Aren’t you getting ahead of yourself?” Angie leans across the table.

“That wasn’t a no.”

“You’re wearing me down, I guess.”

“I’m sure my smarts are the biggest draw.”

“Wouldn’t you like to know?”

I like this playful side of Angie. She’s not as serious as I first thought. Definitely not as uptight. I want to keep spending this time with her. If I’m learning something while we’re at it, even better.

But I want more. I want to show Angie that not all hockey players are like Kyle. God, I even hate his name. I want to smash the guy’s face in. But later. I’ll get my chance to.

“Come to our game this weekend. Let me show you how good hockey can be.”

“I don’t know.”

“Please.” I’m not above begging to get her to the game. “You’ll be my good luck charm.”

“You’re not supposed to have those,” Angie points out. “It’s actually bad luck.”

“Okay, fine. But I’d like you to come. See what it’s like when I’m playing.”

Her face twists up, like she’s debating it. I don’t say a word. Knowing my luck, I’ll say the wrong thing and she won’t come.

“You’ll get your calc test score before the game?”

“Should have it Friday.”

She shoves my book toward me. “Study. Get a B and I’ll be there.”

“Does a B- count?”

“I’ll allow it.”

“Then a B- it’ll be. You’ll see.”

Anything to get Angie to a game.
