Hockey players.

“Are you and Marcus a thing now?”

“I hope we’re a thing. He’s great, Angie. I know you don’t like players, but he’s not one.”

“If you say so.”

“Maybe the three of us can hang out.”

“As long as it’s only the three of us.”

“I have no ulterior reasons for wanting to hang out.”

“Not even considering who his best friend is?”

If this is her way of trying to get Troy in good with me, I’m not falling for it. Marcus and Troy are captains on the hockey team. Even if I don’t follow it, I know that much as often as it’s mentioned around campus.

You’d think the two of them were gods with how much people worship them. Something I’ve never given in to.

“Just want my best friend to get to know the guy I like.”

“I can do that.”

“Good. Want him to meet us now?”

“Oh my God, Harper! Is he just hanging out at the bar right now?” I look around, expecting him to pop out at our side. Like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat.

“What? No. I was going to text him to meet us.” She holds up her phone.

“Just him.” I point at her, taking a sip of my beer.

It’s all I’ll have tonight, so I need to pace myself. I shouldn’t be so nervous meeting Harper’s new boyfriend, or the guy she likes. I don’t know what she’s calling him.

I just don’t want the conversation to turn back to Troy. Even just the thought of him has me hot under the collar.

“Are you nervous to meet him?” Harper asks, pulling me from my thoughts.

“No. Why?”

She spins a finger in my face. “Because you’re blushing.”

“Am not.”

I totally am. I can feel it. All because of thoughts of some guy who shouldn’t be making me feel like this.

This really is going to be the worst year if this keeps happening.

So much for easy.

Chapter Five

ANGIE

Iflip back to the business textbook open on my desk next to my laptop. My eyes are dry and scratchy from staring at my computer all day.

Senior year has been anything but easy. With a double major in business and social work, my workload is heavy. My business class is taking up most of my time. The project for the semester is to start a business from scratch and plan everything that goes into getting it off the ground.

And with a paper due on Monday, I’ve been working most of the afternoon away.
