I love them, but with them around, it’s only making me more nervous.
“Sure thing. We’ll wait for you downstairs,” Dad tells me.
“Don’t take too long. We don’t want to be late.”
“Sutton. We won’t be late.”
They argue about when the car will be here as they walk out the door of our suite.
“How are you feeling?”
Sunbeams shine through the windows of our hotel room. The Strip is bustling below us. Vegas is alive with energy. Fans from all over the country have come to see which players are going to which team.
But I couldn’t care less because of the woman standing in front of me. She looks sexy as hell with her brown hair pulled back into a complicated twist off her neck and a simple black dress.
“Shouldn’t I be asking you that?” Angie clasps her soft hands around my neck.
“It’s your future too.”
“I like the sound of that.”
I drop my forehead to hers. “The future?”
She nods, pressing a warm kiss to my lips. “Ourfuture.”
And to think, we might not even be here if I hadn’tconvinced her dads to give my family a chance. Everything I’ve ever wanted is within my grasp.
A hockey career. Playing for a team I love.
Angie.
I never realized how much I needed someone like her until she came into my life. She’s everything I never knew I needed.
No matter which team I end up with, I know I’ll be okay. Because I’ll have Angie by my side.
“I have a little something for you,” I tell her.
“Oh yeah?” Warm, brown eyes gaze up at me, and fuck if it doesn’t make me weak in the knees.
“Hang on.”
I leave her and rush into my room to grab the small black box. Angie’s moved onto the sofa, kicking off her red heels.
“You know we have to leave in a few minutes, right?” I drop down onto the cushion next to her.
“And if I have to wear heels all night, then I’m going to sit for a few minutes.” She drops her legs over my lap. “Now, what’s this little something you have for me?”
Grabbing her hand, I set the velvet box in it. “It’s nothing big.”
She snaps open the box and her jaw drops.
“Nothing big? Troy, it’s beautiful.”
She pulls out the small, gold locket. The heart engraved on it is worn down, no doubt from years of wear. “It was my grandma’s.”
Angie clicks open the locket, eyes watering at the pictures inside.
“No matter where you go, our families will always be with us.”
