I tuck his card in the back pocket of my jeans. “I guess I can believe you since you know my cousins by name.”

“Unless I’m playing the long con…” He winks at me.

“Cute.” I roll my eyes at him.

“Listen…” he trails off. “Sorry, love, I didn’t catch your name.”

“Layla.” It’s clipped. I don’t know why I don’t want this man to know my name. Although, if he’s done any kind of digging into the family, he knows exactly who I am.

“Layla, I’m the man making sure no paparazzi get in here to ruin your sister’s big event.”

“So you’re not hiding cameras in here?” I become very interested in the dirt under my shoes. God, way to make a great first impression, Layla.

Simon uses a knuckle to lift my gaze to meet his. Those green eyes of his show a hint of playfulness.

“The only cameras that will be in here are ones I add for additional security. No one is getting by me.”

This close, he smells like tea and lemon. It sends shudders through my body.

Calm down, Layla.

You just accused the man of ruining your sister’s wedding, and now you’re reacting to him?

Get a grip.

“I guess I should let you get back to it then.”

“I’d hate to have to tell everyone that my mission was interrupted by a sexy blonde.”

“Does that line ever work on anyone?”

I hope the slight tremble in my voice doesn’t show how much the line worked on me.

What woman isn’t a sucker for a man with an accent?

“Not a line. I guess I’ll be seeing you around then, Layla.”

“I guess so, Simon.”

Simon slips out of the barn like a thief in the night. I’m left standing here wondering what in the ever-loving hell just happened.

First I accuse him of being a paparazzi—sorry, paparazzo—and now I’m turned on by the sexy Brit that’s here for the wedding.

“Layla? What are you doing out here?” Gemma’s voice distracts me from my wayward thoughts. “I saw your car out front and came looking.”

“Just came to say hi to the horses.”

Gemma looks at me like I’ve lost my mind. And today? I might very well have.

“That’s it?”

“No.” Walking over to her, I link my arm with hers. “I had a few adjustments I needed to make on your dress and wanted you to give it another try on for me.”

“Really?” Her brown eyes are sparkling. “I can’t wait to see. I’ve got a few minutes before the head of security comes to meet with me for the wedding.”

“Security?” I ask. Pretty sure I already bumped into him.

“Didn’t I tell you? Charlotte and Ellie hired private security for the month to make sure the wedding goes off without a hitch.”
