I press kisses down her jaw. Tug her earlobe between my teeth. “Mmm, yes. I do like getting to do all the naughty things with you.”

The cold is long forgotten as Layla and I explore one another. Water laps against our skin—now feeling good against the heat swirling around us.

“I could stay out here all night.”

Layla leans back, floating on the water.

Fuck me, does she ever look gorgeous like this, swaying gently in the moonlight looking like a goddess.

“Even if we turn into a couple of prunes?”

Layla sits up, hair slick against her. “Even then.”

Lights shine over the top of the lake, tires crackling over dirt.

“Fuck. What is that?”

“Shit. Someone’s there! Get out!” Layla pushes me toward the side of the lake. Rushing out, I grab her hand and hoist her out.

“Here. Put this on.” I chuck my shirt at her as I’m pulling my pants on, just as the car comes to a stop in front of us. Finding my undershirt, I pull it down fast.

Maybe we won’t look like we were just buck-ass naked in the water.

“Let me do the talking,” Layla says on a shiver.

Now that we’re not wrapped up in one another, the cool night air settles around us.

The door opens and a large man with a wide-brimmed cowboy hat steps out.

Fucking hell. We better not get arrested.

“Evenin’ folks.”

“Hey Sheriff Hamilton.” Layla holds up a hand, shielding her from the lights of his flashlight.

“Layla Winchester? Is that you?”

“It’s me.”

“Heard the noise over here and wanted to make sure it wasn’t troublemakers. Didn’t know it was you.”

“Troublemakers?” I whisper to her.

She smacks my chest.

“Why were you out here this time of night, Sheriff?”

The sheriff shakes his head, dropping the flashlight. “Extra security.”

“Isn’t that my job?” I ask, this time not bothering to hide my voice. It’s the whole reason I’m here in the first place.

“With the wedding going on and all these fancy Brits here, we want to make sure the property is secure against any trespassers.” He ignores me.

“I appreciate it, Sheriff. But we’re all good over here.” It’s the whole reason I’m here.

He tips his hat at Layla. “I reckon you are. You two take care of yourselves, now.”

“Thanks, Sheriff. Tell the family I said hi.”
