“And I love learning all these new bits about you. No matter if you think they’re nerdy.”

Simon puffs out his chest. “I make Trainspotting cool.”

“Whatever you say, my little nerd.”

“You mean badass.”

“As long as you’re here, I’ll call you whatever you want.”

ChapterTwenty-One

SIMON

“Ireally could get used to this.”

“What? Nature?”

A laugh burbles out of me. This woman never ceases to put a smile on my face. “I meant being out here with you.”

Layla turns on her heel, the creek burbling into the lake as we walk along the property. “I like getting to show you this place.”

Everything about it is beautiful. The moon hangs high in the sky, glittering off the lake we stop beside. The mountains are bright, even at night, from the snow sitting on their peaks. Even in the middle of summer.

“What’s your favorite part about living here?” My fingers play with hers, stepping farther into her space.

“The air.”

“That’s your favorite part?” I quirk a brow up at her.

She nods, giving me a look like I’m an idiot. “It’s the clean mountain air. Nothing like you get in the city.”

“So London wouldn’t do it for you then?”

“Sorry, Dixon is it for me.”

It’s another reminder of how our time together is coming to an end. That in a week, I’ll be heading back home to London and she’ll stay here in Dixon.

A place she loves. A place that is thousands of miles away from the city. A place that could never give her what she loves about Dixon.

Two complete opposites who are only together for a short while.

“What’s your favorite thing about London?”

Layla’s question brings me back to present.

“The people.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. You meet so many different people in the city, you never get bored.”

Layla steps closer to me, walking her fingers up my chest. “Are you talking about women?”

“Fuck no,” I answer immediately.

“Smart man.”

Layla moves to continue walking again, but I grab her around the waist and pull her into me.
