I’m hoping for option three.

“Why is this wanker ruining date night?”

A smile pulls at the corner of his mouth as my breath leaves me in a rush.

Thank God.

“If it’s a date night, where have you been all night?” Brad asks.

Simon loosens up, pulling me into his side. “What’s it matter to you?”

The two are locked in a stare off. Neither of them is making a move. My eyes are darting back and forth between the two of them.

Brad blinks first.

“I’ll leave you two be.” He stands, tail tucked between his legs as he leaves.

“I’ll be calling you to set up that meeting.” My words leave no room for argument.

Simon takes the now empty seat, pulling me between his legs. He checks to make sure the coast is clear, that we’re secluded in this quiet part of the bar. Everyone is with Blake and Gemma who have just made their entrance.

“So that’s your ex-husband?”

I lean down on the bar on my elbow. “And how do you know that’s my ex?”

“Aside from him being a complete wanker to you?”

I fight the grin at his words. “Aside from that.”

Simon’s arm drops down onto the bar. His fingers are inching closer to my elbow. Standing here like this, I want to feel his touch. Even the thought of it has me itching for more.

“I have a full dossier on everyone, love. Better safe than sorry.”

I lean in closer to him. “And what does that dossier say about me?”

A bashful look comes over his face. “Do you want to know?”

This time, I close the distance between us, grabbing his forearm. A shock of heat courses through me. Simon’s eyes are locked at the point of contact.

“Now I have to know.”

Green eyes lock onto mine. “Layla Winchester. Thirty-two years old. Divorced. Local shop owner of Pinstripes & Push-Ups. Current dating status single.”

Way to boil my life down to a few sad points.

I point a finger in his face. “I see this dossier is incorrect.”

“What’s incorrect?”

Taking a step closer, I correct him. “Current dating status no longer single.”

His breath is warm against my cheek. “I stand corrected.”

“And here I know nothing about you, boyfriend.”

“Something you should know—I don’t put out on the first date.”

“Really?” I give him a slow survey. I want to test that theory. God, do I ever.
