Rage pumped adrenaline into my fist. It connected with Kabir’s throat, sending him sprawling backward. Clutching his throat, he gagged and coughed, trying to get air into his passageway. Quickly rising to my feet, he followed just as swiftly, his arms swinging out, hoping to land a punch to my stomach. I sidestepped him while my right hook smashed into his nose, taking him by surprise. He staggered back, blood running down his mouth and chin. Cursing, he lunged forward. My right foot rammed into his stomach and sent him flying into the wall behind him. He dropped to his arse, breathing hard.

“What’s wrong, Kabir?” I stepped closer. “Too much of a weakling for you?” I goaded.

He sneered, rolled onto his knees, and stood, his fists coming up boxer style. I waited. He took a step forward, his left hand flying out. I ducked. As I came up, the heel of my right palm slammed into his chin while my left fist crashed into his sternum. He toppled over, landing flat on his back, his head smacking the floor hard. His eyes closed, his breaths wheezed out in raspy pants.

Crouching near him, I shook my head. “Not easy tormenting someone your size, is it?” I stood and motioned for Ramone to cuff him.

Grinning, Ramone went one step further and cable-tied Kabir’s ankles, leaving him on the floor.

When I turned, Mikaela hurtled into my arms, and her hands went around my neck. I winced at the aftereffects of the wallop to the back of my head. Holding her, I shifted my gaze to Wilkes.

His usual blank countenance changed to one of awe. “Didn’t know you had it in you, sir,” he commended.

“Courtesy of raising three boys.” I chuckled. “You okay?” I asked Mikaela when she lifted her face from my chest to look at me.

She nodded. “I want this over with, but I want answers.”

“Then let’s get them for you.” I kissed her brow.

Chapter 55 – Mikaela

Watching Kabir crashinto Xavier and his head hitting that brick, I’d never felt fear like that before, not even with Kabir. Then watching Xavier turn the tables on Kabir, my heart rejoiced. He was right. Kabir was weak. He was incapable of attacking someone his size. That was probably why he chose to torment young girls. He was just a sick man.

“Well, fucking done, Xavier Sinclair,” Kabir’s abrupt shout as he sat up and leaned against the wall drew my attention. “Guess you’re not a pussy after all.”

Next to me, Xavier merely saluted him with a smirk. “Cinder wants answers. Who’s going to give it to her?”

“Maybe you should pummel it out of us.” Kabir laughed.

Wilkes grabbed him by the collar, dragged him to his earlier seat, dumped him on the chair, and cuffed him.

Luke tapped Xavier on the shoulder. “Sir, if you’re open to it, I can help get them to talk.” Xavier nodded for him to go ahead. Luke looked at Zarina. “Did you ever figure out why Kabir allowed you to visit Sixty, teach her, spend time with her, then stop you after Cinder was born?”

She lifted questioning eyes to him. Next to her, Kabir’s face pulled into a tight scowl. “What the fuck are you doing, Luke. You work for me,” he gritted.

Luke smirked. “I quit.”
