“Are you done? I’ll show you the room.”
He downed his coffee and set the mug on the counter. Aria rinsed it out then wiped her hand on the dishtowel before she gestured for him to follow her down the passage.
“Have you seen my bag?”
She stopped and turned, her features a quizzical mask. “You had a bag?”
“A duffle. I dropped it on the porch when I opened the door.”
“Then, it’s still there.”
Reece went to fetch the bag. Returning, he walked back to the door she’d disappeared behind. At the entrance, he scanned the room. Not exactly spacious, but he had a bed for the night. Knowing he slept a few feet away from this incredibly sexy woman made the thought even more appealing. She retrieved blankets and pillows from a cupboard then placed it on the bed.
“There’s a bathroom down the passage. Goodnight.” She closed the door on her way out.
No kiss. With a smile, Reece settled in for the night. He looked forward to this bush trip now.
Chapter Five
When Reece opened hiseyes the next morning, it took a few minutes to gauge his whereabouts. He wondered what woke him. Then he noticed her. The little girl from last night stood just inside the entrance. She stared at him, her curiosity apparent.
“Hi.” He pushed up on an elbow.
With a giggle, she turned and ran.
Fifteen minutes later, after a quick shower, and change of clothing, he headed for the living room. The little girl sat in front of the dying fire on one side of a small table set for tea with dolls on the other three chairs. Her green gaze filled with undisguised suspicion roved over him. In the steady appraisal, he caught a glimpse of a spirited personality. It sparkled in her eyes and then in her smile as her petite mouth curved slightly. After a moment’s hesitation, the smile widened and displayed a row of pearly white teeth. The action immediately lit her face with an infant brilliance. Reece smiled.
“Hi, again. What’s your name?” He added wood to the fire.
“Prisha, but all my friends call me Pri,” she offered with an air of authority.
Reece laughed. “Can I call you Pri?”
“Hmmm...” She contemplated his question. “Okay. What’s your name?”
“Reece. How old are you?”
