“He did something to you and I want to know what?” he scowled. Anger laced tiny lines into his brow. I had a feeling his rage stemmed from a combination of things including the blowjob.
“Stop the car.” Remo snarled.
“Jesus, Remo, he’s just a kid.” Dario shook his head.
“I’m not a fucking kid,” Rayden insisted on being a foolhardy ass.
“You heard him. The kid’s got balls. Let’s see how fucking big they are.”
Dario blew out a frustrated breath and pulled over on the side of the road which was annoyingly empty of traffic. My insides almost became my outsides as anxiety churned every cell, fearing Remo would hurt Rayden.
“Ray, please, don’t do this.”
My words fell on deaf ears because he was already climbing out the door and rounding the vehicle to where Remo stood smirking like a goddamn jackal. Something told me he’d waited for an opportunity to teach Rayden a lesson. Dario didn’t bother to climb out, but I did.
“Remo, please—”
He silenced me with a deathly stare. “Get back in the fucking car, bitch before—”
Rayden’s fist shot out, connecting with Remo’s jaw, startling him. Shocked, I slapped a hand to my mouth.
Scowling, Remo rubbed his jaw then laughed. “You hit like a fucking girl.”
I had a feeling he was goading Rayden and it worked. Rayden landed another hit, this time to Remo’s stomach. Behind him Dario cracked up, making Remo see red. He lunged forward, his movements fast as his fists caught Rayden in the eye and mouth.
Rayden put a palm to his bleeding lip and I thought it would stop him but he bristled. “Is that all you got, fuckface?”
Remo moved with blinding speed, his body crashing into Rayden and taking them both down. As they scrambled, Dario climbed out the vehicle and calmly hooked his hands under Remo’s arms and yanked him off Rayden.
“Enough!” Dario barked. Remo was big but Dario was bigger. I figured there was a reason he was Lorenzo’s bodyguard.
“Get the fuck off me,” Remo shoved at his hands and righted his clothes.
I rushed to Rayden, who was still sitting on the floor. “Are you okay?” I asked, taking in the squint in the eye Remo had hit and his bust lip. Nodding, he stood.
“Everyone get the fuck back in before I make you.” Dario’s no-nonsense words earned him another glare from Remo before we all climbed into the vehicle.
The rest of the trip was covered in silence. My occasional glances to Rayden were ignored as he kept his gaze riveted on the passing scenery. I still hadn’t figured out where we were and judging by the rolling views of the beach, it was a coastal suburb.
When we pulled into the driveway and Dario parked the car, Remo shoved at Rayden to move the second he climbed out. Either Rayden’s resilience was anger-driven, or he was just tired, but he argued with Remo again. I was shit-scared Remo would kill Rayden and hoped like hell Lorenzo was back from wherever he’d gone this morning.
